Em's beat choices

Do you think Em picks less appealing beats so the listeners focus on the lyrics or why are some of his beats just blah?

Only beats I don't really like are Asshole, The Monster and Desperation… That's it...

I think a lot of it has to do with the label pressure. Eminem gets to pick most of the songs, but the label damn near requires hit commercial singles for total support.

The only beat I didn't like was Asshole. And it wasn't that it was terrible but all those sounds together didn't mesh well together.

Well the only time I heard dogshit beat selection and dogshit beats on an Em project was Recovery.

SSLP - Perfectly matched to the rap style; muddy, funky, dark.

MMLP - Harsh, crisp, funky, manic / again - perfect for the album tone and all classic beats.

TES - Rock inspired, classic, matches his flow and style perfectly again and his best beats.

Encore - All the beats are individually good, the album is just mixed / half serious, half stupid. This kind of applies for the beats as well. It's basically two separate albums as one.

Relapse- Amazing beats. Dramatic, tense, razor-sharp, weird... just like the style/tone again.

Recovery... well, the beats do actually match his loud-ass, harsh style... but they don't work. They sound cheap and generic, tinny and just... shit.

MMLP2 - Diverse range of musical influence - back to real music; pianos, atmosphere, proper guitars and that 'live instrument' feel rather than spitfire drums and modern mess.

Two out of three by ADK, surprise surprise!

I know right… but I do like the Wicked Ways beat and LTWYL beat from Recovery… :confusion:

I think a lot of it is how unorthodox Eminem wants his flow.. Look at "Throw That" and "Berzerk" he is trying to showcase how hard certain beats are to ride. It's hard for average listeners to pick up on it.. But to rap over beats like those isn't the easiest to do well.

He also picks them based on how he is changing the pace of his flow throughout the song. I really think after listening to so much work from him he picks them more based on how you'd rap over them vs how they actually sound alone. My 2 cents

It is not about lyrics anymore
It's about a hot beat, a hot beat
A hot hot hot beat and a catchy hook
Nobody gives a damn about them syllables, sillyle-ables, whatever they are
I don't care if you gotta rhyme schmo, mo, joe, toe and glow
Now get out there and sell some goddamn records!

I think theres your answer:p i think he's focusing more on the lyrics this time around...

If we gotta dumb down our style and ABC it, then so be it
Cause nowadays these kids just don’t give a shit 'bout lyrics
All they wanna hear is a beat and that's it
Long as they can go to the club and get blitzed
Pick up some chicks and get some digits
And the DJs playing them hits "Oh, this my jam, this my shit"
We don't know a word to a verse, all we know is the chorus
Cause the chorus repeats the same four words for us
Nothing Lasts...But Nothing Is Lost...

I've always wondered... I understand all the label BS... but Em has gotten so HUGE I wonder if he could just shit on those rules. What is Interscope going to do, fire him? Eminem is the best thing that ever happened to interscope and had made them more money than the last 20 artists they've signed.
