Bad Guy is a hip-hop classic.

Yeah, I said it.
Before anybody runs and makes some attempt to be derisive (it's almost always Kanye Stans) I would like to point out that my mind is made up and any attempts to engage me in argument will be met by copious use of ad hominem and sly insinuations about your mother.
I would also like to make note that this is, of course, just my opinion and should in no way affect your feelings about the album or how well you sleep at night.
I would then like to state that I have a history of being right 90% of the time about such things and, what is more, I have POINTS.
* By the way, this makes MM2 Em's fourth classic record, if you include the SSLP and his fifth if you count Relapse, which is the very definition of a cult classic.
...
I was going to write out a track by track review, followed by a comparism to Em's other great works, citing reasons why I feel the MM2 deserves a place among the best of them and round it off with "Why I Think 'Bad Guy' Is Better Than Sex" but it's 2:19 a.m. and I'm sleepy so...
Agree/Disagree? Do you feel MM2 is or has potential to be a classic record?

I agree with Bad Guy being a classic hip-hop record. I also feel that MMLP 2 most definitely has the potential to be a classic album! It recaptured the magic that Em had from 1999-2002 but in the 2013 environment. It truly is an amazing album!

It is way too early for us to call it that way but it's a gigantic record indeed. It's fucking incredible.

Yeah people were shocked that he had the balls to name it Marshall Mathers LP 2 when they found out its name back in August! At least it lived up to the title IMO

I don't like the first part of 2nd verse. It sort of ruins the song for me.
"Think you can hurt people and just keep getting away WITHHH-- ITT?
...You expect me to just get over him? Pretend he never EXISSS--TEDD?"
And the line "Like I reach my full potential–- I peeked."
Still a good record, though. That fourth verse

It's kind of tricky to be honest... there is relation of course but I don't see that record as Stan part 2.

true, it's not an exact sequel but he uses a character from the original, then takes the concept and turns it on himself in the most cinematic self aware verse he's ever spat

I know... it obviously comes from the same story but at the same time it takes you so many years ahead of the original story & it has its own different details. The other thing is Em did Stan part 2 which supposed to have Stan as a character in it in the so called King Mathers era but they scrapped that.
I said it's one of the most cinematic stories the very first time I heard it too... it is a fucking movie & the picture is vivid as fuck.

I like to think of the face a pissed off teenager would make rapping/saying those lines. Kind of like the face you would make when you would get pissed off when you were little and mock your parents haha. I know that sounds stupid it's just how I picture it in my head

I get what you're saying. That's a cool interpretation :y:
