The Voice Makes A Difference

Postby Kukahara » Mar 2nd, '14, 15:34

While watching some Eminem's live performances I've noticed he performs Just Don't Give A Fuck with an angry voice, and the song itself then sounds angry. But, on SSLP, his voice had that nasal/high pitch that made the whole album sound like he's joking, so on a song like Just Don't Give A Fuck, every punchline comes out as funny and you don't take him seriously. You clearly hear it's him just joking.
In The Way I Am book he said he has no idea why he sounded like that on SSLP, so I wonder, if that voice wasn't intentional, was the whole SSLP meant to sound angry, like MMLP? If done with the tone MMLP has, or later performances of the song, they sound completely different, like they're written from a different perspective.

Perfect example

It's like it's a different song.

For example Purple Pills. Em could still do that voice in 2001/2002 but decided not to.

I might be reaching here, but I guess there's a possibility the song was recorded before...On live versions he sounds normal

I knew what you meant, he thinks he still sounds the same when he wants to but it feels like a shell of what it once was, the confidence and skill are clearly there but the emotion, hunger and drive behind it are gone. Not to say it's Em's fault he got rich, just doesn't feel the same, yakno

Huh? I think him not doing that voice or even trying to is enough of a reason to believe he doesn't think he could do it

He was just making fun of himself, it's basically what anyone would do if they were shown old footage of themselves.

Listen to the sway interview and put the song next to him 'mocking' his voice on the same interview. It's 100% identical. I'm not even exaggerating, it sounds the same. The thing he did on bad guy was probably matthew mocking the voice.
