Elton & Eminem Duet Cancelled After Proof Shooting

SIR ELTON JOHN was due to begin work on his upcoming hip-hop album with EMINEM on the day the rapper's D12 bandmate PROOF was murdered. The STAN star's best friend Proof - real name DESHAUN HOLTON - was shot dead in a Detroit, Michigan, nightclub in April (06) after he reportedly opened fire on a bouncer at the CCC venue. And John cancelled his trip to Detroit to allow Eminem time to come to terms with his tragic loss, but the pair are due to hit the studio soon. The 59-year-old says, "I spoke to Eminem last week. He's not retired but he's been through a hell of a year. "I was due to fly to Detroit to write some songs with him on the day that his friend Proof was shot. But it didn't happen due to the tragic circumstances. "I'm working with him and PHARRELL (WILLIAMS) and others on a new album." Openly gay John shocked the world when he performed with Eminem at the 2001 Grammy Awards - Eminem had recently made headlines for lyrics perceived to be homophobic.

yea he was going to work with just 50, but iovine thought Elton should go all the way with it, so now he's doing some kind off hip-hip produced/collab album or something.

Do you think Em and Elton have spoke other times too? not saying there's a friendship there or anything, but just wondering.

Do you remember either a few weeks or months after 8 mile filming ended, when Em went to go see Elton in concert (coz he was invited for his birthday by Elton, i doubt he's THAT big a fan, lol) but anyway, Elton dedicated the song 'Rocket Man' to Em for his birthday and gave him a case of expensive champagne. I though that was kinda sweet.

I dont know if Elton should do a WHOLE hip-hop themed album, but i think him and Em could pull off another collaboration.....maybe....a little....eerrr.

I think it would sound alright. Elton sounded good with his other collaboration with Eminem (Stan) and he sounded good on 'Ghetto Gospel' by 2pac. What's the worry... listen first, then judge later!

I think its cool that Em would collaborate with Elton cuz he should really diversify who he works with. So far its only been shady people besides like Jay-Z and Akon.
