808's and Heartbreak vs. Encore

Postby Throwback24 » Nov 20th, '08, 07:40

Both were considered "experimental" releases and both albums received harsh backlash (at least from every forum I frequent). From beat selection, to monotonous subject matter, to just releasing a half assed product. Is 808's and heartbreaks Kanye's Encore?

This thread isn't about how bad Encore was, if you disagree with me, I'm sorry.

Encore wasn't experimental, it was just a half-assed effort.

808 was something fucking crazy different...that is average at best

I don't how they really compare.

As was Encore, a parody of sorts. I could see how that's in Eminem's nature but blah. When Encore came out dudes reacted the same way Kanye's new album is being perceived at the moment. Some people like it... most people hate it.

I don't look at Encore as experimental. I look at it as a forced album that came when Eminem wasn't in his right creative mindset and didn't have the drive necessary to put together a real piece of art. Kanye on the other hand is experimenting, and it's going to fail horribly. Love Lockdown is one of the worst tracks I've heard this millenium, and save some Lil Wayne tracks, it's the worst this year by a long shot. I guess you could call this Kanye's half-assed, forced, uncreative album that could screw his career, but I think it's Kanye trying his absolute HARDEST to be the first, best, or pioneer in something.

He only actually tried on a couple of his songs.

Ass Like That is fucking terrible. You shouldn't even be posting here if you honestly like that song.

Yes I would rather listen to Purple Pills and Drug Ballad.

I actually like Encore a lot.
Some of Eminem's best songs are on that album. Like Toy soldiers, Mockingbird, Spend some time, Puke...

And the fact that I fucking hate Kanye doesn't help him that much in this topic.

So Encore all the way! :worship:

808 and Heartbreaks is a lot better than Encore, most rap fans might not appreciate it but that's because it isn't meant for serious rap fans.

THIS IS A HUGE MISTAKE

808's and heartbrake is not a rap album, its a Chillout 88's album... nothing close to rap except some lyrics

for a hip hop head 808's n heartbrake will be bullshit if bad considered, but for a general head, specially me that I'm a very Big electronica lover, I think it is amazing.

but don't get it mistaken, Kanye's new album is NOT to be considered a rap album, and he said it himself... the fact that most of you hate autotune just because t-pain uses it, is not a valid argument. so there's no way to compare them both or even compare it to another kanye album.

this is an example I thought... imagine if Dj Tiesto made a rap album (and weirdly he made it excelent, a masterpiece)... an electronica head will think tiesto is shit, a hip hop head will think tiesto is amazing... se my point. ((THIS IS JUST AN EXAMPLE))

Encroe was great also, but as some people said, there wasn't enough effort in it.

so this 2 albums are uncomparable

Is 808's and heartbreaks Kanye's Encore?

The College Dropout
Late Registration
Graduation

Were light years better than his newest even if it wasn't a "rap album." They came out in chronological order and College Dropout > Late Registration > Graduation. And then you got 808 and Heartbreaks... In terms of his discography, say 2-3 years from now, do you think this will be Kanye's most notable dent in his career? I don't want to get into whether or not Encore=Eminem or that Encore is a fraction of Eminem's legacy. I'm passed ridiculing the old man. (Sarcasm)
