Nice, there's a link there to a full article on Dre in VIBE too.

I may rip on Dre's production a lot but I really like him as a person. I like his production too, I just feel Em sounds better on his own beats.

But he's a wise man and it clearly rubs off on Em. I like a person that's focused and dedicated.

And his The Planets album idea I find genuinely exciting. I actually want him to just get Detox out the way now so he can get onto that. That's way more exciting. It's the kind of thing I think of when I'm on some manic rush and feel like I want to create a masterpiece lmao.

Really good idea.

Nobody wants to hear some middle aged old ass black man talking bout gangsta shit at the age 50 lmao.
Detox is not coming out.
Planets does sound like it would be a dope album though, a full Dr. Dre instrumental album with none of that played out gangsta lyrics....? Now that sounds like it would be awesome.

Thanks for posting. I have always been an admirer of the sounds Dr. Dre has created for hip hop.

None of his solo albums have been lyrical masterpieces, still I feel 2001 is slightly underrated (lyrically) since it tells quite a lot about personal issues. Snoop Dogg was absolute fire on The Chronic.

He said some years ago that Detox would be a non-gangster hip hop musical where every guest rapper would "play" a role. I hope that's still the concept for the album since it sounds like something that has never been done before.

Ice Cube recently said that the Doctor is creating a new sound for hip hop (like he did with his previous two ones). I'm really looking forward to it :)

Instead of dismissing "gangster rap" totally, people should appreciate the diversity of the genre. As long as it isn't corny, I don't really have a problem with it. The Notorious B.I.G. rapped about money and success in Juicy but he managed to do it his own way which made it so great.

I hope Planets happens, but like I posted in one of the more recent threads on it, it's been an idea he's had for a long time, and I'm afraid it's not going to come out.

It's so out there, conceptually, that I don't think Dre would ever complete it. Not that he couldn't do it--if anyone can in Hip Hop, it's Dre--but he may never be satisfied with something like that. It may never click for him. On the other hand, being so unique, he may be able to be confident in it without making unnecessary comparisons to other works.

Like I said though, it's one of those things that was first brought up probably 3 or 4 years ago. Not completely sure, I'll have to look up the original article I'm thinking of.
