Yelawolf interview on the Source (Psycho White is next!)

TheSource.com recently got a chance to sit down with Yelawolf to speak about plans for the rest of 2012 into 2013. The Trunk Muzik MC opened up about a few frustrations he has with todays Hip-Hop. He also noted that both Psycho White and Trunk Muzik Returns are completed.

Let's talk about where all these projects are. What's the status on Psycho White?

Psycho White is good. All the hard work is being wrapped up and shit. So that should be dropping...Actually I think that's next up. That will be the next thing people hear, is the Psycho White project. Then after Psycho White, Trunk Muzik Returns and then probably after that Country Cousins, and then going on into 2013 it will be Love Story. But yeah, Psycho White is next.

You have a busy studio schedule ahead of you.

Well, Psycho White is done and of course Heart of Dixie is already out and Trunk Muzik Returns is half way done. Country Cousins is the only one that's not done. But you know when you're working with someone that you really vibe with it goes by pretty quickly.

Any updates on how Psycho White is going to be released? I know you were talking recently about the Travis Barker situation, has all of that been sorted out
?

Yah, that's going to be available for sale, I believe. Now they just have to figure out how they want to distribute it. I'm not sure exactly where because Travis [Barker] has a bunch of places where he could put it, like Famous Stars and Straps, it could be in any of those places I imagine. On top of record stores and on to his own stores. But its definitely going to be distributed soon.

I'm starting to notice skateboarding is starting to be infused again in Hip-Hop. I know a lot of people have seen it in the past, but you come from a heavy skateboarding background. Does it ever get you mad when you see artists just adapting to this skateboarding kind of look and everything?

Yeah, well, I definitely come from an era when it wasn't cool. I've been skateboarding my whole life. I started skateboarding when I was six years old and I stayed hard with it. No matter what music I was listing to I was always skateboarding. The style and dress of it has always been influential in sow kind of way. You picture me in like Airwalk 540s and going to school in the projects and getting clowned. It just wasn't cool. I was a skateboarder, especially in the South. I used to get hype like late 90s to 2000s, like if I saw De La Soul with a skate shirt on, I would get mad hyped, or if I saw (?) at a skate contest I would be so hyped about it. and it was like, "I told you!". When I was first coming in I was skateboarding and I had my skateboard. It's really been these past three years that it has really gone to this bullshit and its shameful. People getting away with murder with skateboarding. I think it goes with the whole culture in general. Skateboarders, all these white rappers getting away with murder. Its like who is the referee in this? You can't just come into this game and exploit it. That's not what this is. Hip Hop and skateboarding has so much in common because of the grind of it all, and coming up, you know how you get on, and coming from the streets. I've always seen the turn around in it because i've done both things, and they have so much in common as far as the growth. Now they have this same thing in common as totally (fucking) the culture up. Everyone is just getting away with everything. That has to do with over saturation of free footage of skateboarding online and free music online. Kids will go out to a spot and shoot a line and boom there it is. Kids will go to the studio, drop a verse, and put it out and there it is. There's no mystery. Its everyone's game. People are hiding behind some mediocre skill level and they don't have any story, they don't have any style, they don't have shit. They can just do a trick. People can do a skateboarding trick and like, "So what? You're lame." People can rap. So what, you're a cornball. There's no rules to this anymore. That's the most annoying part in the world to me.

^ Me too. I'm honestly bothered with his situation. But he's a clever guy, leaving Interscope now wouldn't really affect him. He's gaining fans from everywhere..

Ed Sheeran, Travis Barker, Big K.R.I.T .. They all have different audiences. That's really dope. And this EP won't be disappointing. I can't wait damn!

Ooh, confirmation from Yela that Em is working on 50's album. :)

Interscope is so unprofessional.

There's one thing you need to know:
(Totally random) but he has already met Hopsin and they talked about a collab. So it's definitely happening too.

But yeah I do understand you.

But that Travis Barker EP sounds more appealing, since Travis is a dope drummer and producter.. And Yela loves rock, so it will probably a lot of Rock/Rap which is amazing and Yela can pull it off. :flutter:

What did he say?
I wanted an album so rugged nobody could touch it.
Spent a million a track and went over my budget.
Now how in the fuck am I supposed to get out of debt?
I can't rap anymore, I just murdered the alphabet.

Any communication with Eminem? How does he influence these next few projects?

He's been working a lot, with the 50 project and the Slaughterhouse project and I've been on the road so I haven't spoken to him. I'm sure soon, but you know I'm already functioning. It's like saying, "I got this and it's good shit." And if we get in the studio and make something happen it will be great and if we don't get an opportunity to work together, its because we're always working but it will eventually happen.

What does Interscope have to do with that? It's Shady Records. Eminem's label...
Look, I love Eminem's music, he's a great musician and a good producer, but whoever thought he was capable of running a record label, yeah well...
I've read a lot of posts here saying "Damn Iovine!" "Damn Paul!", but - correct me if I'm wrong - Eminem is in charge of Shady records. Sure, I don't think he's the one who says "this is how we're going to promote our artists", but he still runs the business and he should have done something once Yelawolf's album didn't receive enough attention... Also, to me it seems like he's leaving Yela pretty much to himself now and that's sad :( .

They need to make a "Kill My Nightmare" type of song.
