I agree, Arena Rap was fucking amazing.

Who was the producer for that project?

You think so?

That album was amazing though. The fact that people so readily accept Trunk Muzik makes me think that they would be receptive to Arena Rap. If anything, it seems more accessible. It is a little too original and artistically interesting for widespread mainstream success, but I think some of those songs sound nice enough to reach a wide audience.

I don't mean it would be considered a classic or it would have been huge, I just mean I think it would be a classic album in terms of quality, consistency and sound, and originality.

I don't think interesting or artistic stop anything from being big in the mainstream.

I think the only component to successful music, is catchiness. If you look at The Marshall Mathers LP; it's the biggest selling solo album in rap music history, and it's about as interesting, artistic, daring and strange as you can get. Aside from the controversy and content which compelled its notoriety... the music is catchy as hell. Eminem has a major melodic ear and talent, as does Yelawolf.

I think melody is the only thing needed to make music big, regardless of its content.

Aah I see, as in terms of what "we" think then. I totally agree then :flower:

Isaac, yeah but Trunk Musik had bass and that fast chopper flow. I think that got people hooked.
It sounds heavy, to put it simple. Arena Rap is as you said, original. But I think its a little bit too original.

Or maybe Im stupid and have to give it a spin again.

Agreed totally with Embase's last post!

Yeah, I wasn't meaning to come off so literal there.

What I was alluding to was the fact that some of the most interesting and original music I've heard--especially in hip-hop--seems to be forever relegated to the underground. Cheese saying that "people wouldn't accept it" kind of brought that idea into my mind. As you pointed out though, it's not a cause-effect relationship, and albums like the MMLP illustrate that point very well.

I'm in total agreement though, Arena Rap as an album would be a classic. I really wish that Yelawolf would have done that, instead of moving on to work on Stereo. Not that Stereo isn't an interesting project, but Arena Rap as a full-length LP would be amazing. Thinking about that gives me hope for Love Story to be something great. I'm sure whatever he puts out will be good, and interesting, but if it were anything like Arena Rap--which would make sense, since it's both interesting and more accessible for a mainstream audience--then it could make it into my top 5 favorite releases.

Fuck, I'm really looking forward to some new Yelawolf material.

I like that video. He really comes across as a nice, down to earth, humble guy. You feel like you really could socialize with him (get drunk with him tbh).

And that part where he drinks the oooold trusty number seven lol. Hahaha

Well, the truth of the matter is that it really doesn't matter what he does, he isn't going to get a push from Interscope. So why be concerned with making an album full of radio records when you know for a fact that none of the songs will hit the radio? Then again, maybe Interscope dropping the ball was the best thing that could have happened, because now Yelawolf knows that compromising won't do anything but lower the quality of his album.

He'll keep doing his thing, building his fanbase through touring and constantly releasing material, like an underground artist would do. After all, anything short of a single with Eminem isn't going to get pushed by Interscope, so what's the point in fucking with them at all? Just make some bad ass music that your core fanbase will appreciate, and keep moving forward.

I think he understands this. Everything he's said since the release of Radioactive indicates this, so I'm not too worried. I wish more people could hear Yelawolf for his sake, but if they aren't willing to search for good music, they probably can't appreciate it anyway.

Miller wrote:I totally agree. Yela's mindset is perfect right now. I just hope Eminem doesnt try to fuck it up. Eminem needs to make a "for sure not gonna hit the radio" song with Yelawolf on his next album. I'm dying to hear those two on some crazy shit. I wanna see them make a song with the kind of chemistry him and Royce have.
Other than that, I hope Yela takes this album into his own hands, which sounds like that's what he's gonna do. Didnt he even say in an interview that he might produce some songs himself as well?

Well, "Throw it Up" was definitely not going to hit the radio...but I'm sure that's not the type of track you're talking about. I agree though, Yela and Em on some back and forth trading flows type of stuff would be really nice.

He's definitely doing this album exactly how he wants to, without much consideration for the radio this time around. I think he did mention that he was wanting to get back on the MPC and try to contribute to the production as well. He has an interesting ear, I assume that the stuff on Creekwater was produced at least partially by him, since that was before Ghet-O-Vision. Granted, it's a little unrefined, but his production style on there showed some potential I think.

Besides Yelawolf having more control over all aspects of the album can only yield a better project as far as I'm concerned.
