Detox Theory

Postby ShaBruv » Apr 5th, '13, 14:01

It's been well documented since 2001 that Dr. Dre had Detox in the works and being a perfectionist Dre is seeking the perfect album but almost 12 years later and multiple "singles" later, we still have no indication when or even if the album is coming.

The implication is that Dre is still yet to create the perfect album and arguably no man alive can create a perfect collection of songs.

Perhaps Dr, Dre realised if he releases Detox when he is alive people will not fail to find faults in the "perfect" album. Hence he is reluctant to release it and he wants not to tarnish his legacy.

So my point is one of us needs to kill Dre if we want this album.

Bogus topic i apologise

Dre is so respected in the game, I dont know why he fears releasing it, if it gets terrible reviews it can only motivate him to do better, imo he is tarnishing his legacy by withholding an album for 12 years

I know why Dre fears releasing it.

He doesn't want to leave rap.

He made a promise that after Detox, he would quit forever.

And he doesn't want to go back on his word.

Doesn't Dre get most if not all of his own verses ghost written?

I think Dre just doesn't like the sound of rap and music in general nowadays. I mean, look at the 2001 album. The beats were amazing. The production itself was probably the best one ever on any album, and in 2001 it fit. That was his sound and i personally think he wants to recreate that sound again, but he knows that another album similar to the chronic 2 won't work again. The best proof is kush. The beat is good, the hook is good too, yet something is wrong. That special feeling is missing. Same goes for INAD. You just can't compare those songs to songs like Still dre or the next episode.

To sum it up, i think that he thinks that his sound, or the sound he wants to have, doesn't fit well with music in general nowadays

^ his sound would in fact change the sound thats out now, meaning when he drops detox that would change the game, in the way that 2001 changed the game, just like how lex luger changed the game into what it is now, 808 beats all day

He's also said countless times that the album is coming. I don't think he's too worried about contradicting himself, his career is full of contradictions. He's "left" rap several times over the years as well, as far as rapping goes.

As someone else said, he doesn't want to tarnish his legacy. He knows that regardless of what he delivers, it can't possibly live up to the expectations that build over 12 years or so. Detox is a legendary album in a mythical sense; legendary in a way that it will never be in reality at this point, regardless of how good it is. There's nowhere to go with it, so why risk adding an album to your perfect discography that will be anything less than perfect in the minds of your fans and critics?

There might be a posthumous release of some of the best songs from the Detox sessions, as that is the only way people won't destroy the perception of the album, and Dre himself, with the scrutiny that it would otherwise face. Even that's a long-shot though, because Dre is such a perfectionist, that I can't imagine his family releasing something that he didn't himself approve.

Well...he made a promise multiple times that he would put out Detox...so technically he's going back on his word anyways. Besides, I don't consider anybody who has their shit written for them to be a rapper. Dre is mostly a producer anyways. Why would he care about retirement? Money isn't an issue (Beats By Dre)
