I wanna point out that ive listened to all these rappers before they signed with Shady unlike 98% of you.
Yelawolf: I had listened to his mixtape before he signed with Shady and thought he was ok, hes no above average rapper or lyricist by any means but he has built his own style and come from being homeless to being semi successful so I have to respect him for that. I think its obvious to everyone that Eminem never signed Yelawolf though, Jimmy Iovine saw a white rapper with something about different about him and from the South which is popular right now and thought he could make him the next 'Eminem' which when hes an average rapper at best that respects the like of Gucci Mane isn't going to work out well. But still, im kinda interested to hear his album.5/10
Joell Ortiz: Listened to a few of his freestyles thought he was charasamatic and a decent rapper. Fast forward to his album dropping, he drops Battle Cry which is dope so i was kinda looking forward to the album. The Album? Trash...2 good songs on there, Battle Cry and Oh rest is mediocre at best..he basically killed his solo career with that debut album. Lately hes become incredibly corny aswell constantly rapping about fast food and putting some bullshit voice accent on, just seems to have given up making any effort. A year ago i woulda given him a 6/10, now hes a 3/10
Joe Budden: Im going to put aside the fact he beats women and cowers when confronted by dudes and is generally a depressed emo pussy who will never earn any normal persons respect aside and just talk about the music. Joe is a talented writer, if he was writing pamphlets for depressed rejected teenages (which is the majority of his fanbase) i think they would be great. I think on the rare occastions that hes not making music where hes acting the victim, talking about his depressions, how another women left him and everything else that seems important to him he may be an average rapper and above average MC. Listening to songs like Aftermath give me hope for Joe, the problem is he almost never switches it up. Joe Budden is one of those rappers that has made the same song 1000 times so while you know theres a good chance its going to be good if your feeling depressed at the time but im personally never excited to hear a Joe Budden record as they are almost all the same. He also massively lacks Cadance and personality/switches up his flow on tracks and with his 60 a day smokers voice can almost bore you too sleep even if hes rapping about something interesting. As a writer 6/10 as a rapper 2/10.
Royce: Royce is the hardest to rate because of his inconsistency. He can go from making a great record to making absolute trash about nothing and only seems to try nowadays when hes on songs with Eminem. So lately he has definately fallen off compared to his Bar Exam 2 or Death is Certain days. Hes also been introduced unfrotunately to things like Twitter and comes off as a huge internet thug which is ruining his credibility. Royce is definately the main reason why Slaughterhouse got signed, I have a feeling Eminem would have prefered to sign him as a solo artist but Royce brought the team along so he gets props for that. 6/10
Crooked I: Crooked I again is almost impossible to rate and hes never put a decent album out. I would say he may be the best rapper of the above but the worst artist. I can't see him ever having some sort of successful solo career and he definately benefits most from being in a group. With that said he usually comes out best on the group tracks and have to give him some points for being a good rapper. 5/10
