I don't think Paul is calling the shots when it comes to what Eminem can or can't do in terms of songs.
Maybe the argument could be made for Jimmy being that person, but at this stage in the game, even that's a cop out. This is one of the biggest artists in the world, a true fucking superstar. He could practically do whatever the fuck he wanted to, regardless of what the label wanted, pretty much since 2002.
He's used to the formula though, and makes what he makes. I don't think he's forced to do anything. I just think his objections aren't as strong as they once were to pressures placed on him by the market, or whoever he may be working with. At the end of the day, his situation is not that of Slaughterhouse or Yelawolf; this man could put out another Encore this year, with "My First Single" as the first single, and Interscope would release that shit.
GOOD Music is a different atmosphere. I'm not a huge fan, but they do what they do, and everyone seems happy. The eclectic styles don't seem to conflict with what the label wants, so no one's bending over.
