Joe Budden performed a sold-out show at Highline Ballroom in New York City late last month and MTV News caught up with the Slaughterhouse rapper backstage for details on his upcoming releases. According to Budden, his Feature Presentation EP will be followed by the anticipated Slaughterhouse album and then a solo LP via E1 Records. The New Jersey rapper is hoping that fans will hear a new Slaughterhouse single by January. “I’ll be the first to say that we’re about ninety percent done,” he says, of the album. “We have what I believe to be our single, and what I think will end up being the number one record in the country, easily, by far.”
“I’ve heard interviews from Royce, Joel and Crooked I where they said we were seventy-five percent done, but Royce came up to New York and we worked on a few records—I think we’re about ninety five percent done,” he continued. “I’m hoping the first single will come in January or December, but naturally Eminem would have the last word on that.”
Budden also explained the concept behind his recent single “Why Would I,” released in October. “A lot of people come up to me and say the stupidest things in the universe, and I feel like it’s the biggest waste of time ever,” he said. “I be wanting to say ‘FOH,’ but I’m an artist and I can’t say that without being rude and impolite, so I just made a record about it. I made a record proclaiming me to be too busy for whatever it is that you want to talk to me about.”
