So she writes her own songs?
If that 's true then I'll have tostop hating on her :zipped:

She ghost writes for Dre :o

She's writing Detox, that's why it's taking so long.

Dragging this back up. Will start off with saying that I think her songs are catchy, she has a decent voice and her shows/outfits are fun. My irritation is mostly with the reaction to her. Some of my friends are really into her and try to tell me what a great revolutionary/feminist/whatever she is and that I'm just narrow-minded for not getting it. No, I just disagree.

I think she's taking stuff from Grace Jones, David Bowie, Madonna, Andy Warhol etc., gets rid of all the risky, more agressive aspects of it and packages it for mainstream. Her songs are mostly harmless pop with standard pop lyrics. Her videos are bizarre for the sake of being bizarre. And to distract from that she gives many annoying interviews where she proclaims that her art is so deep and mystical and if you think it's just the usual sexyface and product placement that makes you a bigoted hater. Very convenient.

All these articles endlessly analyzing the supposed "hidden meanings" of her work. You know what popular artist actually has complex layers to his work? That's right, Eminem. But no one is talking about that because his songs do actually question things and don't give you easy pat slogans like "Love yourselves, little monsters". Lady Gaga is all about pretending to be critical without being critical. Most of the media is about that, too, so it's a match made in heaven.

And I find some of her actions questionable, considering that she portrays herself as such a great fighter for humanity. Her championing of gay people sometimes looks more like exploitation. Her look isn't all that different from your usual pop vixen (anymore). Saying that all that nakedness is "ironic" doesn't automatically make it so. Saying what an outcast she was and how tough she had it while trying to make it? Embellishments to get a hook into her young impressionable audience. Oh, and that "I still do coke sometimes" "But I only did drugs for my art" BS? Way to be selective about your human rights issues, idiot. No one shall ever make fun of gay people ever but financing the horrors in Colombia etc. is A-OK?!?

As I said, if she would be a normal pop star I would find her cool. But everyone tries to tell me what a grand progressive "artiste" she is. And I just don't buy that. She's Britney Spears with more input into her image and songwriting. Though as I was a great fan of Ace of Base as an eight year old I must say that they did that whole "melancholy Eurodance" thing better. :8)
