New Modest Mouse!!!

Postby AbramIsaac » Jun 13th, '11, 10:17

Holy shit everyone, there is new Modest Mouse music out on the interwebs! They haven't put out a full album in four years--like Eminem with Encore, but it was arguably their best album to date--and there have been whispers of a new project. First, Big Boi went on Twitter and revealed he was in the Lab with the band, and just recently they debuted two new songs at the Sasquatch music festival. So does anyone else feel like I do?

Big Boi and Modest Mouse? Anyway, I never really got into Modest Mouse. I do think they have some good songs here and there though.

Yeah, your response is pretty much par for the course: a resounding ''Huh?''--which is definitely understandable. I don't know, I am sure Isaac Brock would only do it if he had an idea in mind. Jonny Marr's addition to the band didn't drastically change the sound, but it did add a welcome finish to the record--I anticipate this to be the same. Modest Mouse is a great band for varied tastes. Every album is an evolution into a new style, so there's something for everyone, without diluting content across their discography. I didn't get into Modest Mouse for a bit, but fell in love with the cynical lyricism and sometimes viciously drunken delivery of a lower class point of view in a hipster-ridden genre. Of course, that's not for everyone.

Well, perhaps I should give Modest Mouse another chance. I do have a lot of songs of Modest Mouse I really like but I never really listened to an album all the way through.

I recently started listening to the band 'Suckers' which reminded me of Modest Mouse. I could be totally wrong, but it's just an association I made.

Suckers - A Mind I knew

My anger doesn't know surrender, skin without its clothes.
Blue fragments of a mind I knew when cocaine's in its nose.
You crash just like a car accident, feet without it's toes.
Don't violate the steps I took to make sure my door's closed.
Your life is like the mundane suffering on late night police shows.
Forced into false affiliations, invisible shadows.

They've scratched records on tracks before, so I really could see this working.

This is one band that has never made a bad choice with a style change. Every album so far has a great chance to be called their best.

& its nice being in Washington so close to them. I even got a friend who knows where Brock lives :shifty:

Just listened to both of the songs, Soundboard quality, and I'm really excited.

The songs sound like a return to their older style...in an updated way. If that makes any sense at all.

Anyway...

Poison The Well
Lampshades on Fire
Don't Move Hear Snippet

Now to wait for the album. I'm thinking next year, since there's not been any word of it since Sasquatch.

They probably realized how awesome their music was after everyone went nuts over Lupe Fiasco's The Show Goes On song...

Yeah, it's funny, a lot of MM fans were upset over Lupe using that sample.

It was ridiculous. They were like "Lupe STOLE THE SONG!!!" because it didn't say "Featuring Modest Mouse", I guess. All over the forums. I guess they've never heard of sampling.

I don't think I would have sampled "Float On", but it was a cool song.
