He is most definately one of the greatest. On my list, he's Top10, and maybe even Top5.

... I see the posts on this thread, and I can't help but notice the narrow musical taste - a lot of - people here seems to have. It's a little sad, because there's A LOT of great music to be heard outside of rap/hiphop.

greatest voice can be the vocal performance but also the delivry like in the rap i guess.

so for me Jeff Buckley, Anna Calvi, Serj Tankian, Robert Plant, Anthony Kiedis, Marilyn Manson.

too difficult for me to know what is a great voice in rap.

but i like this voice, Tech N9ne, Kid Cudi and Cage.

of course there are so many other greatest voice.

:y: What I came to post.

If I had to pick one more...probably Serj Tankian. I appreciated System of a Down before I got into metal all because I thought his voice was fucking awesome. God, they need to get back together already.

I agree with you two. Definitively, he WAS an artist in all senses. He snags, he acted, he played piano.. he was a fucking genius!!!

There are some many artist that have a INCREDIBLE voice. I read all posts (or most of them) and I think some guys have confused voice with talent. Elvis Presley hadn't voice. John Lennon??? O.o They had lot of talent, they were very creative... but voice??? I don't think so.

About girls, I would say Beyonce, Christina Aguilera, Anastasia, W. Houston, Maria Carey, Monica Naranjo, ROCIO JURADO (this last one was soo marvellous- she dies by a cancer- I think she had one of the best voice spanish artists have ever had)

And about boys... well, Some of my favorites are already said, so I'm going to name to KLAUS MEINER (Scorpions' vocalist) Meinar has been recognized as a well-noted guy because of his unique tenor voice and polished delivery which ranges from high notes to soft ballads. (said it by Wikipedia :P)

"Elvis Presley hadn't voice"?... You've got your opinion of course, but I suspect that it's very biased, as you've probably heard very little (if anything) of his catalog (which contain over 700 stuido tracks, recorded over a time-period of 24 years). And... from your picks of the greatest female singers... most (all?) are from the 90s-00s... What about Aretha Franklin?

Voice is a prefferable thing, we like different voices, so there is no fact who's better than the other. There is, however, "general agreements" . And, a couple of years ago, Rolling Stones (the music magazine) put together group of ~300 of the worlds top musicians & music-critits, their task was to answer "this question"; "Who's got the Greatest Voice of all time?". Aretha Frankling was voted #1, Ray Charles #2, and Elvis Presley #3.

a great voice can be an emotional voice too or a voice who has something special like Janis Joplin voice not only with technical prowess.
