Why can not I complete a song?

Postby Ryannoah » Nov 17th, '10, 08:45

SORRY but this is my STORY...

I've been playing keyboard for years and have seen tons of video tuts, and have listened to literally thousands of songs
i simply love electronic, dance, trance and house music, all i could do all these years is just make a 4 bar melody with some software instruments(lead, bassline, beats, etc) and i am stuck with it, YET i see people who can't even read or write music and even don't know any intruments, make amazing songs with the help of software synths and sequencers...???
Does this mean they are talented and i am not... all i am thinking of now is to give up, its been years, and no progress, life has become colorless without music, thats what i live for, i just love it !!!!

i can't derive an intro for a melody i made,i don't know what should come next, what sounds to select i know the song structures too for these kind of genre, and even if i make them i am not able to glue them all together, it sounds like totally different things...

I have some questions please do answer them:
1) do people know before hand what sounds to select like its in there mind (like selecting a bass sound), or do people experiment with trying the sounds out, i find the latter tiring and it makes me loose the feel of the melody i created, since i am repeating the tune a thousand times to get the right sound

2) How about the song structures, do people play the entire song in there mind before making it,

3) How do we trigger our minds to get into the groove and feel for a song we create so as to get ideas

Sorry i sound desperate, but that is what i am now

LASTLY

4) Should i QUIT ? ( i know its sad, after all these years going to waste, but its better late than never)

I can easily play any melody (its associated chords and notes) on my keyboard, by just hearing anything just once, its just that when it comes down to creation i lack ideas...

I think you're trying too hard. If you really had a passion for the artform you can't quit. It's simply not an option.

Just quit trying to force shit and let it flow. That's the best advice I can give you.
