Metallica fans: I envy you

Rap isn't the only genre where the hardcore fans will rag on the casual ones based on the latter's liking of a popular artist.
Metallica is the Lil Wayne of the metal community.
Meaning, if a metalhead is over 15 and rocking a Metallica shirt, the diehard, long haired group will generally point and laugh at him liking Metallica. There's a double standard in the legacy of thrash's "Big Four": Apparently, it's cool to like Anthrax, it's cool to like Megadeth, it's cool to like Slayer, but Metallica is a pariah.
I used to agree with the ridicule, but now I know it's bullshit.
Metallica did sell out a little bit, but that doesn't change the fact that they're talented, or that they were releasing classic after classic at one point.
They make very good music, and I envy the casual listener because you don't have to feel like you're in the closet by liking Metallica.

Yeah, that's a good album too, i liked 'one' and 'justice for all' although i prefer the black album, that had 'wherever i may roam', of wolf and man, don't tread on me, nothing else matters, enter sandman....i could go on

Metallica and Slipknot are probably my favorite musical acts apart from a lot of hiphop artists.

If Slipknot didn't rip their entire careers off of Mushroomhead, from 9 members to masks, to 7-strings and drop tunings, I might like them more.
But I could praise their songwriting all day. Songs like My Plague, Pulse of the Maggots, Left Behind, Everything Ends, Spit it Out and Vermillion 1 have some of the most brilliant riffing I've ever heard. It's very easy and fun to play as well.
If you haven't checked Mushroomhead out yet, I recommend you do so. They've been around longer, but have undeservedly lived in Slipknot's shadow.

Great album.
However, there's much better, and much heavier music from that time period in my opinion. While the albums from the likes of Slayer, Possessed, Death and Morbid Angel still sound fresh to this day, MOP sounds like it's stuck in the 80's. That's just one of those great albums that really hasn't aged well, I think.
