Yet another review of "Recovery"

Postby Jaz » Jun 9th, '10, 00:15

by Jaz.

Cold Wind Blows: I don't really like this as an opening track to the album.. and also don't see why the beginning wasn't a separate freestyle skit. Lyrics are classic Em, hook is fairly annoying to hear, but listenable. Some good punches in this one, but they are everywhere on this album. I like the beat.

Overall: 6.9/10

Talkin' To Myself: I actually enjoy the hook on this one, although Eminem's part of the hook is lacking in comparison to Kobe's. Good story to this track, along with good lyrics. Never a bad combination. Beat is alright.

Overall: 7.5/10

On Fire: Idk what it is but this track kinda bores me.. The production is pretty straight, Mr. Porter did a good job on the beat. The lyrics are good, but I'm not really feelin' Em's delivery on this one. Also, not a fan of the hook.

Overall: 6.5/10

Won't Back Down: This one has been rattling around in our brains for a few days already, and as most people agree, it's far from my favorite Em track. Beat is strange to say the least. Pink makes an alright hook, but it could have been much better. Marshall comes with ridiculous shit as usual, but maybe a little too much here. The punches come with intensity on this track, but it's not a track I see myself listening to on purpose.

Overall: 4.8/10

WTP: I can see this one being played at a lot of parties haha. Not my favorite track by a long shot, but I can definitely see myself throwing back some liquor to it. Hook is catchy, lyrics are straight. Definitely good for what it is.

Overall: 6.8/10

Going Through Changes: Love the Ozzy sample.. my pops heard it and for the first time his head popped up during a rap song. Good story to this track, easy to listen to. Lyrics and production are both straight.

Overall: 8.1/10

Not Afraid: Another that has already been sitting in our brains for some time. It's a good radio single, that's all I really see it as though. It's not a bad song by any standard, just not my favorite. Simplistic production, but it gets the point across.

Overall: 6.2/10

Seduction: This may be just me, but I love this track. It relates to past events in my life, which makes me smile. The hook is just alright, but it's catchy. The lyrics are good and it's a good concept track. Wondering why he's biting that Jay-Z 'AUGHW' sound. (That's the only way I can think to spell it)

Overall: 10/10

No Love: I love this track as well. Wayne starts off decent, kinda loses my interest when he doesn't rhyme for like 3 lines straight, then all of a sudden he murders it. Sample in this track is corny as fuck, but they put the hook together SO well. Em murks this track as well. Good production from Just Blaze here. This and Seduction are my 2 favorite tracks on this album.

Overall: 10/10

Space Bound: Definitely not the usual sound you'd expect from an Em track. I like it though. The chorus is alright, something I'm sure will get a lot more than just rap fans listening. Lyrics and concept are good. yet another good concept track from Em on this album. I like the beat, soft and effective.

Overall: 7.8/10

Cinderella Man: Fuck man, just saw a spider flying down from the ceiling on it's web and was too lazy to get up and kill it, see you later mister spider. ANYWAY, it seems this track is a favorite to many, but idk, just not mine. It's a good track, but I'm not really diggin' the dude saying cinderella man in the beginning.. Or even in the hook really. Lyrics are great, but I'm just not a huge fan of this one.

Overall: 6.8/10

25 To Life: The sample sounds great and fits the beat well. Another good concept track. Easily relatable track. Great story-telling and lyrics. Production is pretty straight.

Overall: 7.8/10

So Bad: Beat has Dre written all over it haha. Lyrics are straight, but Em's flow on this isn't my favorite. It's an alright track, and I also don't like the hook.

Overall: 6.5/10

Almost Famous: Great track. Punches and lyrics are on point. The hook is good, and Em's delivery is pretty sick on this one. Production is great for the track, although if I heard the beat alone I probably wouldn't still say that.

Overall: 9.1/10

Love The Way You Lie: Obviously going to be a number one radio hit for some time. Rhianna made a great hook for this. Em kills this too, which I didn't really expect. Another easily relatable track. The beat isn't the best, but it fits this song very well.

Overall: 8/10

You're Never Over: I think this track is too personal to rate.

Untitled: Idk, the lyrics and delivery are pretty good but I just don't really like this track that much. Delivery reminds me of Won't Back Down, and that might be taking away from my rating haha. Either way though, Em goes hard here in any case, but not a good way to close the album, imo.

Overall: 6.8/10

Very good review. Agree with most things on there, especially about CWB and the Jay-Z "AUGHW" sound.

So Bad has the best chorus on the album for me though.

The Jay-Z "AUGHW" was dope for me.

But, if I rated it. I would've given each track an 8 or more :sweating:

Idk.. He's always liked Jay-Z right? I suppose it's possible, but I'm doubting it. Either way that track is one of my favorite 2 anyway.

I'm too lazy to plug-in my iPod to iTunes so fuck it.

I just CWB has about 7-10 plays.

Haha yeah, see I sold my ipod, but I have been bumping it in the car too, so I'm probably nearing 30 plays for some tracks. Still under 3 on WBD though, lol.
