It's homage. Makes me laugh when people think it is not. Like Jay is smart enough to be a huge money making success with business knowledge but is dumb enough to think he can get away with "biting" lyrics and noone will know.

better yet, they think he's dumb enough to bite lyrics from the best-selling rap album of the decade. At least 10+ million people (in US, i mean; 30mill WW?) have heard that song!
