The OP is obviously right. Any Eminem fan who thinks he's even 10% as good at writing/rapping as he was in 1999-2002 is an idiot.

An I don't even think he completely sucks now or anything...he was just THAT GOOD back then.

I think he forgot how to write after Rehab, but Relapse was a masterpiece IMO, recovery is just not Em

Maybe em was butthurt that Relapse didn't sell THAT much, and thought what the heck, i start givin a fuck now what mainstream fans think and do an album to please teenage girls...

I just hope he chose this style and not fallen off, so that we can actually get some good stuff later when he realises this style doesn't fit him at all

Em has always said he doesnt care about reviews or sales as long as his fans like it. Most fans HATED relapse.

Not true.

Most fans loved Relapse from the start. You can go back and check the threads on this forum. Then, as more and more accent/serial killer tracks came out, they began to grow tired of it. Same thing that has happened with Recovery and the shouting/lame punchlines.

From what we've seen in polls, posts etc. Recovery is far more like than Relapse is.

It' just that people that don't like Recovery feel the need to CONSTANTLY show their hate towards it so sometimes it may seem like Relapse is a fan fav. but it's far from it compared to Recovery.

Well, you have to factor in the new fans Recovery brought in due it being marketed 1000% more than Relapse was. Look at how many people who have signed up here in the last few months.

When Relapse came out, the response from Eminem fans at the time was overwhelmingly positive.

If the response was positive then why did Eminem bash Relapse?

Eminem is different now, yes, but he's still Eminem. His life has greatly changed since 1999-2002, so of course what he raps about, and even how, is going to as well. Eminem's new stuff is great to me. I get that everyone loved the way Em used to be, but he still has that side to him.

Exactly. Response wasn't all that positive. Em knows that hardcore fans liked it, but that's about it. People who are only average fans just don't really like all the accents and serial killer stuff. The majority of Em's fans are average fans, and he cares about what fans think, so he changed up the style to appeal to the people he didn't appeal to with Relapse.

Because it wasn't a crossover hit (=people who weren't hardcore Eminem fans, actually non-rap fans, didn't like it) and it wasn't the success commercially I think he was hoping for upon his return.

I was saying the response from EMINEM FANS was overwhelming positive. the original statement in that post said Eminem fans hated Relapse, which is far from the truth.

"And to the fans, I'll never let you down again I'm back"

...

"In fact, let's be honest that last Relapse CD was ehhhh"

He must have got a LOT negative criticism from his fans to address it on a song. If I remember correctly half of his fans had mized feelings about Relapse when it dropped.

Eminem doesn't read this fucking forum dude...he knows his fans through Paul Rosenberg (who knows how to use the internet).

Eminem fans, which this forum represents to an extent, LOVED Relapse. I'm dead serious, they loved it. Eminem was back after 5 years, rhyming his ass off (almost like the old days.)

Then, after the "newness" faded, opinions started to differ and the flaws of the album were exposed, and people (including myself) began to comment on them. Same exact thing with Recovery.

I'm not saying that WHEN it dropped people hated Relapse. Of course, that's gonna happen. A few weeks after Recovery people were calling it his best album. It happens.

What I was actually saying was that (after the new-ness faded from both albums) Recovery is the most liked.

I doubt Em is gonna say "perhaps I ran that SCREAMING INTO THE GROUND!!!!" on his next single due to the dislike for his "screaming".

I wanted an album so rugged nobody could touch it.
Spent a million a track and went over my budget.
Now how in the fuck am I supposed to get out of debt?
I can't rap anymore, I just murdered the alphabet.

Overwhelmingly positive? Relapse got a really mixed response from fans when it came out. It was far from really positive.
