By Em growing up in Detroit, why would he ever use that word? He respects hip hop and the culture too much to do that. That would be stupid to bite the hand that feeds you. He doesn't owe bitches or the gay community shit.

I don't think it had anything to do with that, because he has gay friends as well, (Elton John). But he still said faggot. All the time.

Totally diferent situation. He met Elton when he was famous. Everybody knew who Em was, and Elton was cool with that. Elton said something like "I would not work with him if he was a homophob. And if he was he would never ask me to.".

Fleka wrote:If Em said "My English teacher wanted to have sex in junior high. The only problem was, my English teacher was BLACK" he would not be a rapper. No rhyme there.

So, if he is bashing gays and women, he should do the same to black people? Could it be that he didn`t say the word because he dosen`t want to offend his black friends? People like Dre, Proof, X, other D12 members...? I don`t see your point.
He had that just don`t give a fuck attitude, but not towards everything. I really don`t give a fuck about baseball. So, should I hate every sport? Pintless thread.

Lmao at you comparing it to liking different sports.

I don`t see your point.

My point was to try and spark some intelligent discussion but I will try and outline some of my views on it for you guys.

After re-reading through this thread I guess I am came to the conclusion that there could be two possibilities.

Bassically Eminem got accused for being a misogynist and homophobic for lyrics like this
"The only problem was, my English teacher was a guy"
"Raping lesbians while they're screaming "Lets just be friends!"- My Name Is
"I don't rap to get the women, fuck bitches
Give me a fat slut that cooks and does dishes" - Still Don't Give A Fuck

and pretty much responded with MMLP.

Eminem got accused for being racist for that song that got released with lyrics like this
"Black girls only want your money,"

and responded by apoligizing.

Now you can look at it two ways. Eminem is genuinely not racist and has a problem with lyrics that disrespect black people. But he is (or at least was) homophobic and misogynistic and didn't have a problem with releasing those lyrics on SSLP.

Or you could argue he is not homophobic and was trying to provoke and then further provoke with MMLP and is a slight hypocrite when it comes to being accused a racist by apologizing and also complies with the unwritten law that he is banished from this N word so frequently used in Hip Hop.

Now I believe the first option is highly likely the case (but maybe an arguement for another day
- 'is Eminem homophobic').

I think Em would have a major problem releasing a song on his album that said
"I don't rap to make friends, fuck black guys
I've been stuck with these criminals my whole damn life"
Because Eminem is genuinely NOT racist and finds this disrespectful. (or of course there is the fact that if you do this you will make it very hard for yourself to make it as a rapper) But I do think Em isn't racist.

I think this also outlines a major problem in not only hip hop but society. It illustrates just how homophobic society STILL is. Most people don't find something like "fuck gays," as bad or offensive as "fuck blacks,".

I do think lines on SSLP are homophobic. I see what you're saying but I just feel this exemplifies how bad homophobia STILL is in society. I get they are shock value and witty but it doesn't negate the homophobic connotations of the lines.

What if we flipped the line and swapped it with 'blacks'. Would the lines not been seen as racist due to it being shock value and witty?

"Killing blacks while they're screaming ____" -insert a witty line

"I was hoping to finally pass 7th grade, the only problem was my english teacher was black"

I genuinely believe that people don't feel homophobia is that bad compared to racism. Just take a look at this site, I will get banned from saying n*gger or being racist but I could insult you with homophobic remarks all I want.

I realise MMLP was tongue in cheek and I think it was brilliantly done but I still do think Em is (or at least was) homophobic and a misogynist and NOT a racist.

I think you are quite qualified lmao. I say that in terms of being very well informed of Eminem's work and of course not being an idiot.
No homo. :sweating:

Yes, I do realise it would've been career suicide for Em to make black jokes but I do think (maybe unjustifiably) Eminem would have a problem doing so regardless.

As you said, jokes about race can be funny, if done correctly. South Park is a great example of this as is Ricky Gervais. (I've had a separate debate with someone as to whether or not these kinds of jokes about race, sexuality etc. should be seen as acceptable). That bitch needed to get her head out of her ass though.

But I guess what's hypocritical about the situation is the same people who defend Eminem's lyrics from homophobic accusations may also get offended if these lyrics were in fact 'racist'. (again I can't really justify this but obviously this belief of mine stems from the nature of hip hop being predominately black and 'homophobic').

But would we be allright with Em bashing blacks as he has done gays and women?
