The main difference in the way Eminem conveys his rap

Prior to Relapse, he would rap in a way where we felt he was talking to us. He rapped about real shit or at least made it feel that way.

Then after, there was a slight disconnection. The perfect depiction was in Beautiful. He didn't even look at the camera.

Songs like White America, Sorry Mama, Square Dance, Stan were all pretty fiery and personal.

Now when you hear tracks such as Going Through Changes, it's personal but you don't really hear an assertive em, you feel like you're hearing an honest Em, but not a savage Em. You're hearing a vinsible slightly insecure Em who might cry.

But his next album might be different. His rough times are past. You usually hear what is based on how he is feeling.

I don't look at that negatively. I think its a testament to Em's variety in emotion across his musical career. Hate the album or not, I think he had to release Recovery imo. After he re-introduced himself to the world with Relapse he had to tell everyone his exact thoughts and feelings during his hiatus and I guess that consequentially caused the different tone in Em we hadn't heard. He's been honest throughout all of his albums and I remember Joell (Ortiz) saying that Em taught the group that their fans should no a little more about that artist after each record. So I guess what we learnt from Recovery was that Em had also had a 'slightly insecure' side.
I for one am happy he did this, because once Em's music career is over, I can look back at all his records and truly know that although we don't know Marshall Mathers, we as fans know that he has been completely truthful with his music and wasnt afraid to hold back and show us different sides to Eminem. No one can deny that Em's got one of the greatest musical catalogues in the game.
