You can tell that it was actually 2003, aside from Em's look, from what Proof says at 2.35 in part one, as he shouts out Obie, Fifty and D12, and they were all signed after 2000.

So what the actual fuck? Either Em wasn't born in 1972 as we all believe, or at that time he used to tell a fake age. And I can't actually see none of these two hypotesis being true.

Yeah, that's the reason. And you have to remember that fans/general listeners didn't know a lot about him yet in 1999, so he could easily lie about his age.
