Here is a better question, why is it that when hip-hop artists start reaching a certain age (40s) people start talking about retiring? It is one of the only genres in which fans expect their favorite artists to hang it up at a certain age.

Look at people like Bob Dylan and Paul McCartney, still putting out quality albums and doing worldwide tours. The music isn't mainstream anymore, because it doesn't have to be. They sell albums with their name alone. I can see Eminem being one of those guys who can keep going for a few more years.

I feel Em would've put out much more music if Shady Records was completely independent, which I can see happening in the near future. Does anyone know how many albums he has left with Interscope?

I'm sure that we can all agree that this 8th studio album will answer many questions.

Honestly, it's probably just because Hip-Hop is still a very young genre. This is the first generation of veterans that are gonna rap in their 40s and still be popular.

This exactly. I mean we still got Ice-T who raps still, same with LL and them and they're older. And Jay's like 43 and he'll still widely popular. Same with Tech. I think as the culture grows, the mentality'll grow. I would love to see these guys making music for another decade or so, but if they lose their fire and feel like they're forced to make music, then I would want them to stop.

I guess that Relapse or Recovery were also his last albums with Interscope back in the day. I dont remember which one exactly.
