The Irony about Em one of the most popular on social media

Postby Hopsinshadie » Oct 7th, '13, 13:16

Is that he knows nothing about Social Media and spends no time on his accounts. Countless amounts of other rappers and stars try to promote themselves on twitter, youtube, etc.. for exposure. Got to respect Em for not tweeting all the thoughts in his head. He doesn't need to personally connect with his stans, the numbers speak. As a matter of fact, part of the reason we're so drawn to Eminem is that he's always being somewhat mysterious. Twitter is designed to take all mystery out of the stars and let them pour all their thoughts out into the world. I believe that doing so dilutes their brand and overexposes them, even makes them look like idiots, and gives haters extra ammunition.

But Eminem's staff does it right. You won't ever see Eminem on twitter, talking about what he ate for lunch, or how proud he is of Halie. And right now Em is being pretty discreet as far as the album. You're only getting pertinent updates. So far, just the cover and name of the album, and a music video. Maybe prior to that, hints on Instagram and photos of him flipping us off. He's not yapping and yapping about how MMLP2 is going to be the bomb. We're living in a digitally addicted cyber world, where social media seems to be a prerequisite and a manufactured need for everyone, and yet Em just hires people to maintain it for him intelligently, and doesn't spend a minute on the internet, yet surpasses every other star or athlete who all act like a bozo on it. So why should Eminem learn how to use a computer when he's already the cream of the crop in terms of social media popularity? He doesn't need marketing skills, his brand takes care of all that. Em's old skool. You just gotta love that.

I think it is a testament to his impact on the pop-world and thus society in a broader sense, but I completely disagree about his fan interaction.

It is bad that Eminem is so disconnected from his fans. It shows when he releases albums based on what his Yes-men tell him his fans want (ahem Recovery). Watching Kanye's interview on Radio 1 this month, it is clear how Kanye is so well informed on what his fans want from him, and I was thrilled to hear him reject their views.

A fan may like an artist, but no artist sets their creativity in stone. An artist may outgrow you; you may outgrow an artist. A fan should never demand anything from their artist of choice. They need to accept the artists's passion and either adapt to their changes or find other artists they can enjoy.

I think if Em was really in touch with social media, he would have a clearer idea of where the rap game is going. I think he is still in the pre-Graduation mindset that gangster rap and raw hip-hop is the key to being a respected rapper. I don't think he realises the inherent correlation between his best tracks (Kim, 97 B&C, Stan, TWIA, SFTM etc) and the artistic works of a rapper like Kanye. Compare SFTM to the production on Late Registration. That is why hip-hop is emerging as the new Rock and Roll. It is becoming a lot more musical and thus deemed more serious and accessible to a multiplicity of cultures outside the traditional black, ghetto community.

So whilst it is incredible Em can have such a huge impact on social media without direct involvement, I strongly think his lack of communication owes to the buzz simple tweets of his produce.
If he were to communicate personally he would have a much more intimate following of fans, rather than his current core breed who cling strongly to his first three albums and write essays on how Relapse is a masterpiece.

So you're saying he made Recovery based on what his yes men told him, but that he shouldn't have?

No, he made Recovery by his own choosing because of the shitty reception to Relapse, you bastards.

Yes. A man so disconnected from social media is well aware of what his fans think.

Interscope, the shady team, his yes men et al would have conveyed this to him. It ties appropriately with the reception from his Forever verse as well.Recovery wasn't completely unorganic, but it definitely feels like an album thought up by some Interscope think tank.

Menzo wrote:They've said countless times that Em was pissed at Relapse getting trashed and scrapped R2.

Christ, they LET him release an album about serial killing with accents as his first album back from hiatus. Em has all the freedom in the world, we're just too pussy to blame him.

I already wrote in lengths above how Em is disconnected from hip hop as a developing genre.

Interscope's pressure cannot be underestimated. It is quite obvious that when Em made Relapse he would be allowed the freedom to work in his own creative circle. Interscope would be unwise to tell a recovering addict to follow their orders.
