Em's always put emotion into his music. But the last few years he was just yelling at nothing(on fire) and it sucked. The way the song were mixed, the types of beats and the style of voice and emphasis on his words made my ears hurt.
"Enough rhymes to maybe to try and help get some people through tough times
But I gotta keep a few punchlines just in case cause even you unsigned
Rappers are hungry looking at me like it's lunchtime
I know there was a time where once I
Was king of the underground, but I still rap like I'm on my Pharoahe Monch grind
So I crunch rhymes, but sometimes when you combine
Appeal with the skin color of mine
You get too big and here they come trying to censor you
Like that one line I said on "I'm Back" from the Mathers LP1
Where I tried to say I take seven kids from Columbine
Put 'em all in a line, add an AK-47, a revolver and a nine
The two words I highlighted is perfect vocals really. That growl at the end of the words. That's how you yell.
It gets you pumped, it doesn't make your ears hurt. I love how he's worked on his voice.
I love that he makes his voice sound different so often and tries new flows on top of that. It doesn't always work and he stays on shit that doesn't work too long sometimes. But he's always inventing.
That part of the song I just posted is amazing. I hope he puts something like this together for a entire song on the MMLP2. If so, that will be a 10/10 song.
Also I would like to hear an entire song that had flows like this
"I got a laptop in my back pocket
My pen'll go off when I half-cock it
Got a fat knot from that rap profit"
Sounds great.
Really pumped up to see so much going on in these new songs. Even though he's not always been on point, you can tell he's giving 100%. His 100% isn't what it used to be, but it's still really good.
