Besides the hook, I think they have the problem with the 'rock-ish' beat. But then again, that's strictly just the matter of taste. My favorite Em track of all times is Sing For The Moment, which somewhat explains my love for Survival.

there's nothing wrong with people not liking survival, its not hate. I personally like the song but i dont like it on the album and i find my self skipping it each time it comes on when i play the album in full. It really doesnt fit on the album, it just pops right up on the other hand i find the monster fitting so well on the album when you listen through and i dont skip it.

Survival should've been the bonus COD track and Dont Front should've been on the album, just my opinion.
