Weird thing with Baby chorus

My apologies if this has already been discussed.
A couple days ago I was playing Baby in my car, using my cheap cassette iPod player (there's a cable on the cassette which plugs into the iPod), and I guess I bumped the cord and it came about halfway out of my iPod. I could no longer hear Em's vocals, but when the chorus came on, I could hear what sounded like a group of young kids (around 10 years old) singing the baby chorus. I guess my question would be why bother having these kids sing backup if they're inaudible during the actual song?

Well, layering vocals changes the tone of the hook. Just like autotune can alter that. So, especially on BABY it would make sense to have that effect

Eminem gets girls/kids to sing the high notes he can't sing...but sometimes his judgement sucks and he tries to do it himself (You're Never Over).

He probably thinks girls singing by themselves is fine, but kids singing by themselves is a little too lame, so he turns their vocal layer down. But not to the point that you can't hear the effect they have on the overall chorus.

Mac Lethal said Eminem's the best of all time when it comes to mixing down vocals.

It probably helps that he has access to all the best EQ/reverb/compression/delay technology.

The Eminem acapellas are masterpieces in and of themselves. Everything is just perfect.
