Here's something I've always wondered...

What the hell happened to Eminem in this era? I believe the drugs played a role...but there has to be more to it. Infinite and SSLP showed that Eminem could flat out rhyme and had a very creative side to him. MMLP and TES showed he could absorb the beat and spit with fire on each record. He was on top of the world..everything he was touching was turning into gold. He writes Lose Yourself..arguably the greatest hip-hop song of all time. At this point, he's throwing classic tracks such as Lose Yourself and 8 Mile for a movie soundtrack. He wins an Oscar which is incredibly impressive. Everything he was putting out was so fresh.

Then...Encore happened. I get he was drugged up. But he goes from writing Lose Yourself to Big Weenie. He suddenly thinks farting noises and burps in his songs is good music. The album concept was creative with it being the Encore to The Eminem Show, but I'm sure he had an idea while making The Eminem Show. However, the songs lacked creativity, they got cringe-worthy and were just disappointing.

Another point is how the hell did nobody stop Eminem from doing this? He had an incredible legacy forming, and while his legacy is still incredible, it was a huge "WTF". Dre, Paul, Proof..anyone.

Nope, it really is as simple as the pills turning him into a zombie. It got progressively worse, which is reflected in his music. In 2003, he could still churn out some rhymes...but when he went to Orlando with Dre, he basically had a pill party and recorded most of Encore during those sessions. The pills he was on in those sessions basically put him in a low brow comedy mood.

I think he got bored with rap and also just hit a creative slump after the creative trio bliss of the first three... and as most of us agree - musical and lyrical peak of TES.

He even said himself in 2010 that... after he wrote "Lose Yourself" he kinda felt like 'fuck, I'm never gonna write another 'lose yourself'... and he said he felt like he hit a roof.

He recognized himself he had hit a stride and prolly felt burnt out.

So that probably made him wanna fuck around and just fall in to a 'fuck it, my best years are behind me' kind of mindset. To put "Just Lose It" on an album... like, wow he was SLUMPED.

The transition, or, car crash from TES to Encore in just 2 years shows what an extremist Em is though; if he's going to crash and burn - he'll even do that in an extreme way. Most people have a gradual decline, where as he went from BEST FUCKING EVER to WTF in one album.

Although there is some good of Encore ("Evil Deeds", "Yellow Brick Road", "Mosh", "Crazy In Love")... it's just a shame what a wasted opportunity it was given its great concept.
