For my research paper in my Pop Culture Studies seminar class, I'm thinking about looking at how Eminem has broken the 'color gates' for the hip hop world, as most non-black people struggled in the profession before him.

Can anyone provide me with semi-scholarly sources I can delve into to go about this?

This publication is a little bit bias against Eminem, but it talks about (according to the abstract) him breaking into a predominantly black business as challenging social constructs and re-constructing them:

If your library has an online database, search the titles I gave you up there, you should be able to get access to them since they're on some really commonly used databases.
