I don't like when people include bonus tracks...

Postby Hubub153 » Nov 11th, '13, 03:49

...when discussing the quality of an album. I see this mostly when people say Encore is a good album (which boggles my mind). "I mean yeah Encore has some good bad songs, but it has classics like Toy Soldiers, Yellow Brick Road, Love You More, and We As Americans." Except those last two aren't actually ON the album. To me, the first thing you hear on Encore is the curtains up skit, and the last thing you hear is the song "Encore," and you don't hear any of the bonus tracks in between. I don't really care if you swapped out the shitty songs for the bonuses, that still isn't how the album was made, and doesn't change the actual quality.

I take no issue with someone saying those are the best or their favorite tracks that came out of whatever album. It just bothers me when people use music that isn't actually part of the finished project to reinforce their opinion.

Well, MMLP2 would have been better had he at least included Baby and Groundhog Day...and left Survival on the bonus track. Even though I love MMLP2's pacing, as far as individual songs go I would have personally put those songs on the album. At least.

Can't wait to get the bonus tracks in the mail. The 16 tracks is too short.

I get that discussion. It COULD be better if certain tracks weren't left off, but all we have to judge now is the finished project. I guess my point was I'm tired of seeing "Yeah, (some album (who am I kidding, I'm talking about Encore)) gets way to much hate." Then talk about all the great songs on the album, half of them being the bonus cuts. Encore COULD have been vastly improved if those tracks were on there, but they were left off, much to its detriment.

That's what she said

She didn't mean it though.

On topic, trade "Survival", "Love Game", "So Much Better", and "Berzek" for "Baby", "Groundhog Day", "Desperation", and "Beautiful Pain." I would say trade "The Monster" for "Beautiful Pain" but "The Monster" fits the album well even if it isn't the awesome-est of songs.

Only songs I would consider switching out would be Survival and The Monster. I really like Baby and Groundhog Day, but I really don't see how well they would fit. I get why they weren't considered "album songs." The other I thought Desperation and Beautiful Pain were just OK...and Wicked Ways was mehhh. I really hate the hook on that one.

Berzerk fits on the album and it's a good lead single.
Fuck top five, bitch, I'm top four
And that includes Biggie and Pac, whore
And I got an Evil Twin
So who the fuck do you think that third and that fourth spot's for?

I feel the exact opposite way from the op. I think it's fricking stupid when people argue against an album not including bonus tracks.

Also those tracks were supposed to be on Encore originally as a finished project but they leaked and got taken off the main tracklist.

But at the end of the day they aren't on the main tracklist. They got taken off and replaced with horrible abominations of pissing and farting sounds. My point is if someone hands you the Encore or Recovery CDs and you play it in your car, you will never hear Love You More or Ridaz. If you are talking about an album as a body of work then you are talking about the first track through the last track. Not only about the songs individually but how the whole project came together at the end.

It's fair to say Love You More is better than a lot of songs on Recovery, but it isn't fair to try and say Encore is a better album and include Love You More in that discussion.

Oh, it does. As far as lyrics are concerned. If we're talking about the music, then no.

I got a question for you while we're at it, Hopsinshadie...you said make it either "all or nothing" when it comes on how Em should choose tracks...well on SSLP he had If I Had and Rock Bottom, two serious cuts when the whole album is supposed to be ABOUT SLIM SHADY, ya know? TES was a mixed bag for sure, lol, perfect balance of serious and funny. Encore was a balance too and Relapse had two serious cuts as well.

Seriously Hopshinshadie, you not liking it because he didn't fully make straight up Shady tracks is kind of a stupid reason. When his older music is just like it. Two more serious songs than SSLP, wooooooow lol.

But TES had like the perfect flow. TES was just very emotional and showed us a new side to EM.

I wanted it to be exactly like MMLP but just a different time. You know BAD GUY? That and Parking Lot was a perfect start for the album. So I wished that he would have stuff like THE WARNING and Wicked Ways on it and one more Never GAve a Fuck track. That would have done it.
