wanting to emphasize his voice more than the beat?
I'm sure he understands that nowadays listeners tend to focus more on the beat rather than the lyrics, and that usually determines whether they like a song or not (see: Chief Keef).
I don't believe him toying with his flow is him just trying to "experiment". He must think that him using a regular flow would be boring so he feels the need to be all in our faces.
Just something I was thinking about today. Thoughts?
