How do you think Em feels about MMLP2 reception?

Postby sbolli1 » Jan 6th, '14, 19:43

Yeah it's the best-selling hip-hop album of the year and sales are still going pretty strong with The Monster still pulling good numbers, plus reviews have generally been more positive than the past two albums.

However, look at all of these irrelevant articles and reviews that denounce Em's talent just because he throws the word "fag" in a song. Look at freakin' HHDX claiming it as the most disappointing album of the year :facepalm . Look at all those god-awful "year-end" lists that are constantly putting Drake and Kanye ahead of Em. Em can't possibly listen to NWTS or Yeezus and think "damn, these guys really brought and embodied that hip-hop vibe more than I did on MMLP2, so they deserve it." In fact, I don't see how anyone could say that, but alas, that's life.

This isn't a thread meant to bash Yeezus or Drake and say how they don't deserve to be on those lists, I'm just curious how you guys think Em feels when he clearly put his heart and soul into this project (and it shows, imo), and he just gets dismissed by many as a 40-year-old homophobic misogynist who does nothing but rehash material. This ain't no rushed response to a failed Relapse reception, he obviously worked hard as shit on this album and if it irks me that he isn't getting the recognition he deserves, he can't be too happy about it.

I know we always say Em doesn't give a fuck, but he obviously does give a very big fuck about the reception an album receives, because that dictates how much respect he'll garner from it, respect being the only thing he seems to care about.

The only, THE ONLY, thing I will give Drake or Kanye over Em this round of albums is that they stuck to a single concept, where Em dabbled in many things.

Other than that.. he probably thinks it's horse poop.

This is the best reception he got since The Eminem Show. Some controversy, a few good reviews, a few bad reviews and overall a positive score.. That's all he could ask for. Even the original MMLP was hated by reviews and stuff so yeah.

Also, Yeezus or NWTS don't try to embody Hip Hop like Eminem does, they try to "push it further" while Eminem is more of a mainstream backpack rapper. They're totally different rapper and that's why they also don't target the same audience for the most part.

Drake appeals to men that have serious insecurities with how much they cry at night.

I think he always knew it was gonna make a splash, the dude knows how to make hits by now. But i Reckon he'll be more chuffed about the shout-outs he got from his peers, i.e Chuck D and the like. That's all he ever wanted

He probably feels happy. He just wants to rap and the fans loved it. And a large percentage of the critics too.

Drake is aight, on some songs he can be good, though.

No matter how well received MMLP2 is you can bet that his next album will have a completely different sound to it. Every album sounds just so fresh when released because of that
Q. What did Eminem say to 50 when he caught him wearing a sweater?

Probably just glad to be done with it.

I think he's pretty satisfied with it though. It is a return to form for him and he still has the respect this many years into the game. He's good.

Critics/professional rap reviewers are completely clueless, and this paragraph is all the proof you need:

Upon its release, Encore received positive reviews from most music critics. At Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album received an average score of 64, based on 26 reviews, which indicates "generally favorable reviews".
