MMLP2 gets my vote. It may not be as "cohesive" as Relapse but Em's level of skill and creativity is better in comparison

I agree with Eminems flow being smoother in Relapse ( though its not realy debatable the fact is that it is)
And i like the production overall more in Relapse, and it is more consistent/more cohesive experience.

But the sheer amount of creativity in MMLP2, the content, the songs overall are just better to me.
The only song that i feel can measure up to the best of MMLP2 is deja vu.

The likes of Rap God, Bad Guy, Rhyme or Reason, Groundhog day, Headlights, the verses on Asshole, Love Game, he just comes so hard so consistently, the rhyming the word play the everything. The one thing I would like to see is more smooth flows, while technically impressive, it doesnt always make for a better song. Also an album unified by the production would be nice. Theres so many flavors here, but i feel thats part of what makes it fall short of being placed up there with his first 3 efforts.

Relapse is good, though I dont think its as good as other members here believe. MMLP2 just does too much right to ignore. My votes gotta go to MMLP2

Even when winning illogical, losing is still far from optional.." -T.I.

Relapse. Because, fuck it, I just LOVE all that Psycho/Horror/Drugs shit, not just in music but also movies, tales. Em managed to capture the vibes of the best slasher movies, horror thrillers, goofy, disturbing stories in parallel of Em's "Relapse" in Hip Hop figuratively when he talks about drugs. The album's cohesion is its greatest strength. Fuck, it feels like a trip in the mind of a fuckin psychopath in what appears to be a random killing spree which actually is very thorough. SWA is lyrically impressive for instance, it's very finical. People say that the words used for the rhyming are random, but it's really not.

But that's VERY close. MMLP2 objectively is better, this album is brilliant. Bad Guy brought tears to my eyes the first time I listened to it and it NEVER happened to me with any other Em's song. Legacy, Asshole, STIW, Brainless and Love Game are GOAT too.

The Relapse era is very special to me I guess

Relapse.

These two albums may be Em's very best on a technical, lyrical level. And MMLP2 might even be the winner, but Relapse has these things going for it:

1. WAY better production. Like, seriously, all Dre beats > no Dre beats.

2. Cohesive feel. Relapse songs feel as if they belong together. MMLP2 songs all feel diferent and like they belong on other Em albums, like Rhyme or Reason and So Much Better feel like Eminem Show songs, and Survival and The Monster feel like Recovery songs. The Relapse style is its own thing, while MMLP2 feels like a combination of every other Eminem album.

3. Lines on MMLP2 feel very cramped, like Em was trying to fit as many words as possible into every line. It gets to the point where there are no breaks between lines and if someone were to rap along, they'd have to do half a verse in a single breath (that's probably an exaggeration). Relapse feels a lot more smooth with its flows, is the point.

Also, I just prefer the subject matter on Relapse. Sue me. I'm a sucker for it.
Jump around.

Was actually thinking about this the other day, both albums are 8-8.5/10 for me.

I think as an album, Relapse is better (I'm not gonna mention the c-word)

MMLP2 in the end has better songs I think though.
