They are. Hangover is an attempt to replicate that kind of humour.

It's a high-octane alcohol-fueled comedy caper full of socially-awkward characters, hmmm... sound similar? It's just the way it's executed, it's definitely an attempt at that tone.

But Superbad, is absolutely hilarious and one of the funniest comedy-movies of all-time. Instantly. Where as The Hangover... isn't. It's pretty boring / off-target / corny.

Meh, I didn't really see much comparisons. If they are considered similar, then almost every american comedy that comes out nowadays is similar to superbad. Both were good comedies that were way over-hyped.

Yeah they are. Because they're all copying Superbad.

That 'kind' of comedy isn't totally groundbreaking, I mean you can even go back to say American Pie which is similar in tone.

But Superbad was something special and things like The Hangover are knock-offs.

The Hangover was definitely over-hyped. Superbad deserves all the praise it got and gets.

1-the hangover is not at all a rip off of superbad lmfao...superbad is about 2 teenage kids trying to get beer, and have sex with their highschool crushes and some kid hanging out with cops..the hangover is about 4 guys who have a bachelor party in vegas..get drunk lose one of their friends..and try to remember what happend the night before...the only similarity is that they are both comedies...using that logic..anchorman is a rip off of happy gilmore

2-i was just looking up shit about the hangover 2..and saw eminem was supposed to be a bartender...i checked wiki and its listed there too..i know thats not a source...but idk...just asking if anyone else heard..cuz i have not been on my computer much lately

Go and read up Eminembase post on previous page cause that explains why it is rip off to it. The social awakard nature off the characters and the whole group drunk thing is definitely playing on the superbad movie. Just like it been mentioned, its just executed differently. But when i see critics say Hangover 'best comedy film in years' and say its 'original' i just don't get it.

The logic isn't that it's a rip-off because they're comedies, why would I randomly pair those two and not EVERY comedy ever made? obviously I didn't use that 'logic'. That's idiotic.

It's a clear rip off in style and tone. The types of characters, the situations, the format, the dialogue, the nature of the conversations - all these sorts of things are what make it a rip-off. It's a clear attempt to replicate it in style.

But this always happens in cinema. Because like everything, money poisons art, including movies. So... once something works, writers are encouraged to replicate certain ideas, to re-hash on the grounds of repeating past success'. And The Hangover, is that. A re-hash.

It's also funny how... in your attempt to emphasize how different the plots are you actually prove my point further. Again, of course they're not going to LITERALLY re-write the exact plot, don't be so silly. But it's a drunken comedy caper themed in a very similar way.

It'd be like somebody trying to rap exactly like Eminem but about slightly different subjects. And you saying "it's nothing like Eminem, look - the subjects aren't the same". I'd imagine if a rapper wrote a song called "Pam" - a story about a psychopathic FEMALE obsessed fan, you'd say it's totally original.

I thought the movie was hilarious. Who cares if it's not the most original movie ever? It was entertaining, which is what a movie is supposed to be.
Anyway, I think this would be great. He could have a really funny scene. I'd like to see it happen.

I like The Hangover very much. It's not a rip-off of Superbad, it just uses the same formula of basing a story around 3/4 hopeless guys and how they get themselves into ridiculous situations. You could make similar allusions to the likes of Old School and Anchorman - all centered around the lifes of a few stumbling fools. I have to say though,Superbad is the best one of them all. Anyone know of any plans to make a Superbad 2? I guess sequels are never really as good but still.
