Well it's still not retarded to be influenced by things enough to write something about one. Just because it hasn't happened to you, don't be closed-minded to the possibility it happened to others. That was my point. Oh and being influenced by something enough to write just a 400 word essay is barely "super influence". Em-Base writes these in his sleep lol
From what you just said, this prompt is clearly not the right one for you. Choose another one.

there is no choosing. at least not for this. my literature teacher assigned this for the summer project, it happens to be a common app prompt. but i'm not submitting this to a college.

This is kind of the point I was trying to make - you haven't been influenced by one thing, and you can choose from nearly anything, so are you sure you want to go with this? I think you're selling yourself short here, as far as how much content you can generate if you really think about what has influenced you. If you can't come up with a standard 5 paragraphs, then whatever you are writing about probably didn't influence you as much as you think it did.

Are you submitting this for an AP class? Full disclosure - I'm an AP English teacher, and this is exactly the kind of prompt I would give to push a student out of doing to much summary of a work and to come up with something really original. And by "original" I don't mean "a topic nobody else will pick," I mean something that is reflective of the writer's individuality and voice. So think about you first, not the work you want to write about. What part of you do you want to write about? In this essay you sort of mention that you consider yourself level-headed. The connection you are making between that part of your personality and this song isn't strong enough. Your personality isn't at the forefront, the song is. Which is the opposite of what the prompt wants you to do. Is there some other character/work that you've related to in a stronger way?

(I'm such a nerd - I'm kind of looking forward to grading papers. Good thing I only have 2 more weeks until the new school year starts!)

it is for an AP class and yes i know the problem(s) with it. but i've been thinking about it a lot and i can't think of any work of art that has REALLY influenced me to the point that i could write an entire essay... i guess i could use a character which i can relate my traits to and just lie entirely but it won't reflect my "voice" and whatnot.

english is stupid and this prompt is really bad. i got a 5 on the AP lang exam so i'll just use my credibility to tell my teacher she's dumb and my stan essay is perfect.

I hope you're joking. If you're not, let me go ahead and break it to you - you don't have enough credibility to tell your teacher she's dumb. If you had gotten a 5 on the language exam you wouldn't have written an essay as bad as the one you posted. And if you know what the problems are and you think you're just good enough to lie, why post it and ask for help? And then talk shit about other people trolling, like you aren't trolling yourself?

you must be a fairly young/cool/new teacher. asserting that because my essay on this prompt wasn't groundbreaking i couldn't have gotten a 5. you only have to do better than 90% or maybe less of the kids who take the test. and the essays are only 55% of the grade, and the prompts are not even similar to the one here.

not questioning your skills as a teacher. it's also surprising that you like eminem, especially if you're a woman. which i assume you are.
