I really like some Jay Z songs......and I think he is very talented. But I have a hate relation with his voice....Sometimes I find his voice truly annoying.

Yep. Nas definitely does IMO. Can't say the same about Jay-Z though.
MCHG was a big letdown for me. He needs to do something about his flow.

Not to mention that as time goes on, I'm finding more and more that I've outgrown Eminem's old albums. I've moved on to Kanye/Jay. They have much more consistent careers and they're innovators. They brag about their wealth/success in new and interesting ways and they're bringing a new sound to hip hop with the use of samples.

These very same people are probably only listening to what is easy to listen to meaning the complexity of the flow (well, how fast it is) and how catchy the hook and chorus are. If anyone really sat down and tried to take the actual words into account, it'd obvious that he definitely is one of the better emcees.

Funny thing is Jay-Z months ago mentioned Eminem as somewhere close to a top 5 emcee. Nas listed Eminem alongside legends such as Frank Sinatra and Michael Jordan in the booklet of the N*gger album.

I thought of this today when I listened to Relapse. When I got to Same Song And Dance it hit me. How the fuck is this guy ever going to betaken seriously? It doesnt matter how good he is, he raps about drugging, raping snd msking a suit out of Britney Spears. Is gameover. Its a miracle the man even gets attention from media, let alone actually win prizes!

I love it though.

Nas mentioned Em in the bookler for the N*gga album? Nice, do you have the quote?

Nope. It's just a big list of people that has inspired him. It doesn't really say anything other than that but if I remember correctly, Eminem is the only rapper mentioned.

Maybe we should get rid of Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne and Big Sean first. :shifty:

1.) He's white.

2.) The controversy

3.) Because people know that he's miles of ahead of their favorite rappers, but don't want to admit it for the reasons stated above.

No one wants to admit that a white guy that makes music as controversial and shocking as Eminem is better than the typical rapper.

I think there is also the fact that he does not make only overly "serious" songs. He is funny sometimes so lot of people think that he is a kind of clown. :facepalm2

I'm kind of getting the sense it's actually more the white rap fans who "criticize" Eminem. I think it's because, deep down, they're afraid of their own racism. They're afraid that they believe blacks are intellectually inferior to whites, and it is precisely for that reason that they downplay Eminem and play up whatever good black rappers they can think of.

The guys on message boards going, "son, eminem is overrated n shit. his albums is wack and corny, no grown ass man listens to eminem. he got a weak catalogue, no content, he aint even close to nas"...those guys are white.

Absolutely. I agree with this.

I also feel youth do this with Eminem, or, more accurately... sort of... 18/19 year old rap fans who want to disassociate themselves, or even older than that - just rap fans in general who want to disassociate themselves with the teenie boppers and non-rap fans who like Eminem so they don't want to be thought of as that and go out of their way to let you know they think X underground rapper is miles ahead of Em lmao, when in reality they're not anywhere fucking near him and write predictable and embarrassingly generic multies as apposed to inventive conversational layers of rhymes, wit and social commentary as prime-Em did.

But, yes, white rap fans definitely do what you said here. Tis very annoying.

But, I don't necessarily think it's because they're 'scared of their own racism' but more so that they don't want to look racist or like they just love 'the white rapper' to black rap fans, as they think there's a predictability to it and go out of their way to put black rappers ahead of Em.

Me personally - I couldn't give a fuck. Whoever I think is the best is who I am saying is the best; and any ridiculous notions of racism or liking him for the wrong reasons, I'm happy to combat as they're all retarded and I've done so with my friend in RL before as he's long disowned Eminem for the reasons above probably, and just because in a way it's become cooler to say he's shit...

People driven by these motives are annoyingly fake. Just like what you like and explain why.
