"Stay Wide Awake" I think is written better, some of the writing on there is just superb, and no I'm not talking 'multiz bro', I mean the phrasing, the thoughts he chooses, the way he captures psychopathy by saying he wouldn't use a gun because there's not enough sadistic control of the violence in it lmao... there's so many elements of detail people miss in what they think are his 'pointless rap tracks' where he's just trying to impress, but he reveals so much character and moments of detailed thought, and humour; as he's not caring about anything else other than the content and the writing, he's not trying to 2nd-guess himself or his listeners or create a real-life drama story. Where as most introspection drains him of his personality now, because he's so hell-bent on proving he's... mature when he's not, or still immature or still this, or just so dead serious on making you feel empathy here or letting you know 'his views' that it just hinders creativity and creates audio soap opera.
"My Mom" is written well too... and "Same Song and Dance" is written really well...
I think it's hard to compare two different subject-matters as the intent and meaning of the writing is changed... but I find it annoying how so many people just find even mediocre songs about real-life issues 'better writing' than amazing songs written about anything else...
Not saying "Deja Vu" is mediocre btw, it's a brilliant track, and the rare introspection that is merited, that track was merited... but when he makes it the overbearing focus of his work to pander to people's need to 'relate' I find it so boring and predictable.
It was the perfect track to go out on. Even more than I wish I had R2... I wish he had ended the album on that track, fading out like it does.. would have been such a cohesive album.
