Recovery will never get as much love as Relapse. It was released 3 years ago, and if anything, Eminem's last release made me appreciate it even less. BME > Recovery.

"Medicine Ball" is one my favourite from Relapse. Those first two verses; his flow, phrasing and delivery... and the beat, and that hook... some goood ass fucking shit yo.

While there are multiple lines that make you go "Huh?", his voice and flow are spot on. You can tell he was trying too hard to capture the essence of the early 2000's Slim Shady.

I highly doubt that.

Because the criticism for Recovery is due to him compromising his integrity and making music like everybody else, and the production being fucking awful.

Where as... if you actually look at the critical reactions to Relapse... nobody denies how amaizng his rapping is... and most praise the production... but weirdly, and unlike other rappers... Em gets judged on his themes. Ye and Jay say endlessly pointless filler nonsense but if they have a cool flow and a good beat then critics say they're revolutionary to music lmao.

Where as Relapse was somewhat revolutionary in its technique, that was some next level fucking shit in terms of detail and those flows, my gawd yo... and it was hella consistent in sound and tone, but they and annoying cheesy fans didn't like it or give it a chance as... it's a comeback, and everybody wants X aka an easy, predictable album where he says this this and this, like they expect.

But then Recovery showed why Dre really is a great producer and maker of cohesive projects, and people went back to it and realized they had been tards, ignoring the fucking amazing rapping; I called it from day one and have also been saying for ages that Relapse's standing will get better at better, like a Hitchcock movie that gets blasted then revered.

If Em had the balls to make Relapse perfect like he intended though... would have been so much better, but it's overall effect is forever tainted due to his choices.

But Recovey... Ithink it actually has amazing tracks overall and enjoy listnening to themall, but it's far less special and doesn't have hidden qualities which need to appreciated; it's right in your face and yo either like it, or not. Where as so many people just didn't even properly listen to Relapse and believed this idea that he's saying nothing or it's just silly and just toally missed all the finesse and oustanding elemenets to every area of his technique.

I actually don't think he was trying to capture the essence of old Slim Shady. It's almost completely different than the initial Slim Shady persona, and if we notice that then he sure as hell knows it too, lol.

I think he just felt like spazzing, something Proof would've loved hearing him spit in a cypher and just make people go wtf.

Yeah I'd say it's completely different. It was a new Shady, which is why I was so excited - regardless of what some said with him trying to go backwards... nothing ould be further from the truth, the only thing he truly embraced again was provocation and making extreme comical stories out of his situations rather than dwelling and moaning like a boring faggit.

But the way he phrases things on Relapse is poetic, and more so than vintage Shady. Vintage Shady he spoke almost like a regular person would, he still always had this weird knack for creating these odd pairings of words or sentences that wouold catch you off-guard though...

But on Relapse, he was much more confident of knowing his artistic past and what people expect and why he does what he does "time for you to hate me again" (mmlp-esque, inviting and fueling anger to spark debate and be the villain), lots of self-aware remarks and referring to himself like a fictional character villain - so in that sense, it's Shady, but the way he writes and delivers it is so fresh and unique, and because he was free of the burden of creating 'another Eminem soap opera' album, he was more creative "They say once bitten and twice shy!" - using fables and little phrases again and really got that love for words and ideas back, thennnn he went straight backwards.

Hopefully the pussy ass cunt pussy grew some balls betwen Recovery and now and has made something he truly wants to make.
