Sure, if one artist has a creative-momentum going, and has the ability to put out three quality products (albums), in three years, without compromising quality because of third party reasons, why not? The Beatles is a prime example.
But if, on the other hand, the artist isn't able to make the art (music) that he feels is worth putting out for w/e reason, then he shouldn't either. Fuck the third parties. Lil Wayne is a prime example of the “Quantity over Quality” type mentality (striving to ride the wave of current buzz and demand) that’s resulted in a - somewhat at least - downhill career. Michael Jackson is an example of the opposite; 5 years passed between Thriller (1982) and the follow-up Bad (1987). Result? A long and successful career.
To conclude, there are probably good reasons as to why Em did not put out any album in 2012, or thus far in 2013. Inspiration and quality doesn't come on cue.
Edit: @OP and others who feel let down, I suggest widening the sources from which you consume art and music. Gracenote (largest database of music) has traced down some ~100.000.000 recorded songs. With an average of 3 minutes per song, that is 300.000.000 minutes, or... 5.000.000 hours, or... 208.333 days, or... 570 years... of music.
