He received a lot of negative response from fans and critics when he was supposed to be making his 'comeback'.

I'm glad he scrapped it. Saved his career quite possibly imo

MMLP 2 saved Eminem's career to me.

In the public's eyes, Recovery saved his career.

Can't help but think that's based purely on the fact that it's Eminem though, lol.

It's like he panicked and did Recovery, which just compounded the problem in a different way and he's now trying to still correct things with MMLP2. He's being very reactionary.

Em has always been reactionary, it's really no different now than it was then.

Encore didn't win one, though.

Relapse was up against lesser known albums, whereas Encore had more competition.

Em scrapped Relapse 2 because he knew had it been released that it would have just given python more material to create worthless threads complaining. So Em is doing us a favor, give him a break, geez.

Because Relapse got a mixed-negative reception from fans and critics. Other than not being as confident in his own opinion and vision at the time... he said R2 was ''more of the same'' - so he probably figured R2 would be even more panned considering it was a more extreme version of similar material.

When I put it like that - it's understandable, considering he'd been out of the spotlight (as a solo artist) for 4 and a half years... to have his comeback album kind of panned, and to then follow that up with a more extreme version of the same thing - maybe he felt it could have killed his career.

Though i don't think it would have. I think he would have gained some vintage era respect for following through on his vision in SPITE of criticism (thee ethos of MMLP) and then Relapse and Relapse 2 would have gained respect, as Relapse is already, and been understood better over time. As many great, polarizing works are.

Encore and Relapse's negative reception from the public must have shaken Eminem up.

Because he has not relapsed but recovered, that seems so logical.

People bitch about the accent on Relapse and the reception by critics and fans wasn't that great also, so Em gave us Recovery instead...but i'll put Relapse over Recovery anytime..it's way underrated

Agree.

And, the true answer is: Because Jimmy Iovine saw the sales potential in Eminem making a full cross-over album from front to back. After the reception of the immaculate raps that were in Relapse they decided the audience needed the Jay-Z approach, dumb it down for them.
