Simpsons win for controversy

Sorry, I'm a sad maniac Simpsons fan :(

Actually Eminem was mentioned and disliked by Bush.

He once said Em was 'the biggest threat to American youth since Polio'.

Also - in regards to 'The Simpsons' not being as good and everybody thinking that... I've been a fan since the beginning, and grew up on it, and I think it's BETTER now than ever.

The old shows, the early ones, used to be too corny and always ruin it with some kind of moral upshot or try tie it together with some cozy family lesson.

Now, the really classic episodes like the monorail one etc. - they're the arguable peak in comedy terms, but as of right now - generally speaking, I think it's a lot more creative and consistently funny.

They just care more about being funny now. Since the movie, there's a lot more visual gags, ideas, all sorts. And I think they've done enough emotional story lines and backdrops to be able to do that now.

In that sense, they are like Eminem. They started off making somewhat heavy work with a lot of substance, which ruffled feathers at the same time. And now they're just focused on face-value puns and jokes and jabs with less underneath.

Where as Eminem is not better though, but... very different, and I'm still glad he's changed. I never want a repeat. I always want him changing. But, with 'The Simpsons' - I actually think they've changed for the better. And I've seen some recent ones and they have some really funny ideas throughout.

But, Eminem = Ricky Gervais:

They both play the public villain and indulge in character, and tongue-in-cheek for comedic effect and to annoy people who don't get it. Eminem still does this, nothing has changed. It's just his execution and the quality which has changed. He's nowhere near as clever now of course.

I'm talking at his peak though. At his peak, he = Gervais. They both do very similar things artistically. Gervais on stage, will purposely play the role of a racist - Gervais does it for more consciously clever reasons, arguably, but they both essentially expose hypocrisy and like to get a rise.

I love them both. The first ten seasons of The Simpsons are classic. Sadly, the show is a shell of what it used to be, though the movie was so-so. So it's kinda like Eminem, though I think new Em is passable, while new Simpsons is pretty bad.
