Even Recovery is better than a couple of Jay-Z's albums and Encore is better than at least half of them. He's gotten so lazy. His legacy would be much better preserved at this point if he only did the occasional Kanye collab album and popped up on guest verses here and there. Watch the Throne and American Gangster are the only two good albums he's had since The Black Album. Also there's a little thing called Renegade that should have settled this "debate" once and for all. Hov lost.

Thank you. Finally someone else with the balls to say it. Jay has gotten SO lazy. He really does not deserve to be considered a GOAT. Sorry Hov lovers. I like Jay but it's very clear how lazy and uncaring he seems now.

OT: Hail Rap God. :worship: :worship: :worship:

It doesn't matter how lazy Jay-Z has gotten when he has one of the best discographies in hip-hop to support him.

Reasonable Doubt, Vol. 1, Vol. 2, The Dynasty, The Blueprint, The Black Album, American Gangster, Watch the Throne, and now Magna Carta Holy Grail. Wow, astonishing how many great albums he has.

This Horse guy telling me that fucking ENCORE is better than HALF OF JAY'S discography is fucking laughable and tells me that he doesn't know shit when it comes to Jay-Z. He's probably only bumped Eminem this past month and hasn't heard one song on MCHG. He's probably heard Holy Grail...so make that two songs.

"Renegade" lmfao. The one song that is so overrated its actual meaning and the power behind it has been lost...for good.

Jay held his own against prime Em...that's pretty impressive in my book. It's not like he absolutely demolished Jay and made him cry. He had two excellent verses, as did Jay.

Name me one album that I listed that is worse than Recovery or Encore.

I only like Reasonable Doubt, BP2, The Black Album, Watch The Throne and just a little bit of American Gangster. And I would rather listen to Encore or Recovery. Sorry, I'm not the hugest Jay fan.

Jay-z is nothing compared to Em right now, from a a rapping technical point of course, even as an overall artist Jay-z is nothing compared to Em nowadays

Exactly lol. There's no fucking way that Jay is anywhere near Eminem. I'm sorry but I'm not sorry because it's true as fuck. Eminem is far better in every single way.

I don't think it's terrible, but it isn't goat material.

I do get the argument for Jay's greatness. But no matter how many ways I think about it, I personally believe it's inexcusable for the supposed greatest *rapper* alive to admit dumbing his lyrics down for cash. You can make the case for him being the goat back then, but I can't acknowledge a *self proclaimed* sell out as the goat. It just feels insulting to those that still bust their ass trying to work on the craft. That's just my take on it though.

I completely agree with you bro. Jay Z is undeniably a great rapper (top ten in everyone's book), but he literally is fucking awful now. He has 3 classics- Reasonable Doubt, Blueprint, and the Black Album. Em has 2 to 3 classics- SSLP (debatable), MMLP, and TES. Em has put out less albums than Jay. Em is incontrovertibly more technically skilled. Really people are caught up in social stigmas that cause them to be mindless sheep. Em> Jay. Em is definitely a top 5 rapper and imo a top 3 rapper. I only believe that Nas is indisputably better. If MMLP2 is a classic, Em will cement his legacy and possibly eclipse Nas if it's incredible because let's face it- Nas fell off after Illmatic. Stillmatic and It was Written are his next best. Just because some shit is bumped in the hood doesn't make it good.

Watch The Throne was overrated and mediocre at best. MCHG was just shit on my shoe.

MCHG, Vol. 3, Dynasty, Blueprint 2, Watch the Throne, Kingdom Come......all were not that good man.

Also....SSLP, MMLP, TES > Reasonable Doubt, Blueeprint, Black Album as a whole.

Jay hasn't had a real good album since American Gangster. Bluprint 3 was iiiight. Thing is, when Jay has nothing to rap about, he doesn't pack the lyrical skill or ability of an Eminem or Nas. When Em and Nas have nothing to really say, it can still sound dope as fuck based on their technical skills alone.

Reasonable Doubt - Classic
In My Lifetime - Really good album
Hard Knock Life - Really good album
Life and Times of S. Carter - Decent album
Dynasty - Alright, had a lot of throw away sounding songs IMO
Blueprint - Classic
Blueprint 2 - Average at best, mediocre.
Black Album - Classic
Kingdom Come - Mediocre
American Gangster - Good album
Blueprint 3 - Decent album
Watch the Throne - Alright based on production, overall mediocre lyricism too
Magna Carta Holy Grail - Mediocre, better than KC/BP3 though

Illmatic - Classic
It Was Written - Classic
I Am... - Mediocre, alright.
Nastradamus - Medicore, his worst.
Stillmatic - Really good album
God's Son - Really good album
Streets Disciple - Solid, pretty good album.
Hip Hop is Dead - Good album
Untitled - Really good album
Distant Relatives - Good album
Life Is Good - Good album

Nas has been consistent as fuck since the turn of the century.

Infinite - Solid album.
Slim Shady LP - Classic
Marshall Mathers LP - Classic
Eminem Show - Classic
Encore - Average at best, decent tunes but his worst ever.
Relapse - Solid album.
Recovery - Solid album.
Hell the Sequel - Good album/EP.

Jay fans still can't seem to get over the fact that Em out shined Jay on his classic Blueprint album. And I'm a big Jay fan too. Jay had dope verses too, but if you couldn't hear Em was clearly the better of the two, IDK what to tell you. Also, a well known fact about Renegade is Em recorded those verses before he even knew he was going to be on a track with Jay, and Jay had a chance to hear Ems verses before writing his.

StayWideAwake wrote:Yeah damn haha. In all honesty, what Jay and Nas (love Nas, not criticizing) have that Em does not, is the level of scrutiny imo. Jay fans are fine with his newest work not being as good as RD or BP. They accept where he is at and still call it great music. I don't recall ever seeing a single Jay fan saying "it's good, but it isn't RD". (maybe they do I just haven't heard it) For some reason his fans and non fans alike are able to take his music in stride relative to the point in his career. Em fans (and critics) still can't manage to do that haha. I think that's what the "time warp from 2004" line is for. Saying "can you please stop talking about whether or not I have fully hit stride since I fell off and just listen to the quality of my music." If he would have never had Encore and or his hiatus I think people would be able to see much more clearly when looking at his new stuff. "2004" was the break point for him. Ever since then it's been the dividing line between "good" and "bad" Em. No matter what he puts out he still can't seem to bridge that gap and have people just accept his music as a continuation of his work, and not just "the better of the worse half".

Also he's too popular, people who care what others think won't acknowledge that Eminem is good, they will seems like Justin Bebier fans, like they're not knowledgeable enough about hiphop.

Can't believe we had some supposed heads say Wayne had one of the greatest 5 year runs in hip hop.....SMFH

Wayne was big, doesn't change the fact that his shit is elementary and whack as fuck. I don't care what niggas bump in the hood, yeah I'm not some random suburban white kid like a lot of people think all Em fans are. But there's niggas in the hood that bump Future, Trinidad James, and all those guys.....does that make them good???

That's the most ignorant argument I've ever heard. A big reason a lot of these guys hate on Em is cuz the guys white, and a big reason all the suburban white boys listen to him is cuz he's white. Like the god himself said, Rakim, if Eminem were black he would be the Muhammad Ali of rap.

Em is held to the highest of standards, even by the people who say he's overrated, which makes no fucking sense. Where as Jay can release Blueprint 3, Watch the Throne, Magna Carta and though it's no where near his earlier albums and not even on par with American Gangster, his fans still say "Ahhhh Jay is dope, Jay is the man, yada yada yada". Where as Em releases Relapse and Recovery which are better IMO than BP3 and MCHG, and HTS which is better than WTT.....all we hear from the heads or fans of those other guys is that Em fell off and isn't the same guy.

It's retarded.
