I doubt it. Recovery is still a great album and he probably believes that as well. He might regret calling Relapse bad though and saying it deserves to be in the trash.

It was relevant at the time. You weren't part of the cool kids if you liked Relapse. :coffee:

Everybody noticing how intricate the rhyming and shit was, and then beginning to actually appreciate it didn't happen until a little over a year and a half ago.

I always liked Relapse too. I can agree that that subject matters and content were lacking, but Relapse showed true skill and artistic freedom. Recovery is better for a few reasons, but it doesn't take anything from Relapse.

Relapse = Recovery for me. They're both 4/5.

Relapse is great, but the subject matter starts to blend together alotttt, making a handful of songs feel the same. Just my opinion.

Everything blended together because it was meant to be, the skits, the songs...They all complete each other.

That's one of the things I loved about Relapse, Recovery felt like a mixtape because it sounded like a punch of songs thrown randomly that had no connections to the previous song or even to the theme itself.

I realise that it was a theme album... but like a movie, there should be direction and progression. He tried (and somewhat succeeded) with the skits leading to tracks and so forth but i do concur that at times it was stagnant. Too much filler.

Bagpies From Baghdad, Must be The Ganja, Medicine Ball, Crack a Bottle, We Made, Old time's Sake and (even though i love it) Hello are all songs that could have been done without. It makes it much shorter and more progressive because at its current 85 minutes (including the bonus tracks) its a tad bit too long.

It does do well in connecting songs though as i alluded to the skits for example.

Don't really agree with the Recovery assessment...honestly if I listen to Recovery front to back, it sounds more coherent and thematic than people give it credit for.

Must Be The Ganja is sick, I would not switch it at all. :'(

I wouldn't say it pisses me off. It just wasn't necessary. His vocabulary is far too vast to stoop down to Wayne words.

As you can see from your own quote, you have about 4 (or 5 if we include Beautiful and Careful emo) concepts that are being executed in one album. Variety is ok and i'm not saying anything is overly out of place... its just that you dont NEED to cover all those themes in one album. You dont NEED to follow that progression to come out of Relapse.

Aside- It reminds me of how stan had an awesome story line with 12 verses but he had to cut them down to 8 because it bogged down the song. It was better when it was more succinct. Further, I was watching T.i's interview of making Paper trail and how he removed words from verses so that the pauses convey the message better. all that after reading this blog - http://www.kidtwist.com/blog/let-me-be-clear

That is why i've always preferred SSAD to SWA. Clarity can get lost in the complexity of multies or (like in Relapse) an overly ambitious sequence when a little re-arrangement could make it shorter yet more palatable.

Truth is, i've tried unsuccessfully to reconcile the 12 steps and Relapse. To me, it was a completely different set-up. :scratching:
