I wonder If y'all say Gaga is now more famous than Eminem now. then how does Eminem sell more than her ?

And if Eminem's fanbase from the past still his fans till now buying his albums after the falling he fell and the 5 years without an a solo album. And now he's the best selling artist in 2010. That means Eminem fever > Gaga fever -------- whether was in the past or present ( 2010 )

If she was more popular I think her remix album would do much better. She just showed she can't sell everything just because she's Gaga. Eminem, on the other hand, managed to sell even very questionable Re Up mixtape when he was at his lowest point popularity wise. Re Up almost outsold Kanye's album on a ww level and Kanye's CD was the best selling hip hop album of the year.

But Eminem was all over MTV and other music stations. Music TV had bigger impact than radio back in the day. If you were popular on TRL you were big on Billboard too. Eminem was the king of MTV. The most successful artist in TRL's history. Gaga's album doesn't get close to the popularity of MMLP, let alone TES. 8 Mile movie earned $51 000 000 millions on its opening weekend. At the same time Lose Yourself was breaking Records everywhere. It was BB's number 1 song and it had the biggest radio airplay all over the world. 8 Mile soundtrack sold 702,000 copies in the first week, TES sold 1.32 million copies in its first full week. This all happened in one year. Radio, TV, movie theathers- all in one year. Gaga is not even close to achieve this. Not Afraid will soon surpass Telephone in Youtube views and that's her second most popular video. It has already more positive likes than Bad Romance. LTWYL just broke Yuoutube record and it's going to break another one.

Tricky to tell really, Em never had a huge hit in the US in 2000 and yet he was massive, its pretty impressive that the MMLP was as successful as it was.

I don't think GaGa will ever be able to ever match the success of her album The Fame nor the success of the Poker Face/Bad Romance, i think shes peaked and her popularity is slowly going down, she'll still have big hits though.

I think Lady Gaga makes catchy disco songs, she can sing somewhat and play the piano. What makes people crazy for her are the outfits, videos, performances etc. IMO she apppears edgy without being really edgy. And because she's inoffensive while somewhat wacky all sorts of people can get into her music and feel hip and unique without being so.

So for example a song/video like LTWYL, basically a chillingly accurate depiction of the dynamics of an abusive relationship masquerading as a catchy ballad, manages to be genuinely subversive and controversial while still getting mainstream attention. Gaga has this superficial shock factor but is totally harmless when you look closer.

IMO that makes it difficult to compare both. Of course the music industry was in a different state 10 years ago as well. But Eminem was fiercely debated on a wide public forum in a way that Gaga isn't because there's just nothing threatening or subversive about her. Gaga is a product of the mainstream while Eminem was an underground artist making his way into mainstream consciousness.

This^ When people talk about Gaga, its usually not because of her music, but because of her weird persona. I like her because she is/was a breath of fresh air and stood out from the disney pop stars that's been polluting the music industry. That's the only thing I feel like she has in common with Em. They stood out from the rest of in their respective genres and that's what got them immediate attention. But the thing with Gaga is that she is relying way too much on her image to remain popular which is why I think that she's just a fad.
