It's like he's in his own little world, rarely looking up into the crowd or shaking hands, etc. Back in 1999 - 2006 he was all about crowd interaction and knew how to keep them hyped. When he came back in 2009 it was so different. He's gotten better since 2010, but I can't watch his performances from 2009 at all. His confidence level seemed to be at zero. And it's sad, I really hope he can kinda break out of it and get used to being onstage again. I'm pretty sure not having Proof on stage with him has a lot to do with that.
I saw lots of footage from 2010 and I think he looked very confident during his shows. If you download some HQ youtube footage so you can actually clearly see his face, you can tell he enjoyed the shows so much, that it almost made him look high. Like he hyped himself up so much that he often lost control and started to make crazy moves while his face was gleaming. The audience could feel it. Many people that attended one of his shows the last year said it was one of the best shows they ever attended and probably the best Eminem show they had a a chance to see. People said he rocked the huge crowd like never before. Years ago he had a DJ and rapped over pre-recorded tracks. Now he performs with the live band and is able to spit a hit after hit with voice so powerful that people often accuse him of lip-syncing. If nothing else, the live band alone can dramatically improve the whole sound.
