if you're getting your ratings by averaging out the track ratings (which is the correct way to do it u dumb ppls) then u can't rly justify the 10's and esp the 9 for relapse

You do this but you need to take the overall album into account as well. Otherwise it could literally just be 12 great tracks.

maybe if the album is somehow less than the sum of its parts, but i mean if it has 12 great tracks then it's probably a pretty great album lol (assuming it only has 12 songs).

Doubt Em was trying to 'recapture' or imitate his older Slim Shady tracks. Like I said in another thread, if we notice the difference he sure as hell does.

Pretty obvious from the intro alone on Beautiful that he was going for classic Slim Shady.

That being said, I disagree. It's obvious that the concept of Relapse is the play on of words as in relapsing into his Slim Shady persona/attitude which as we all know means to say whatever and just not give a fuck. Which he did.

I don't think in anyway he was attempting to imitate/mimic his old style. He never has and he never will and lastly, he probably can't (because of artistic evolution/15 years of writing and constant stylistic change). Obviously he is going to do certain things to recapture that feeling such as Ken Kaniff and that intro but he wasn't trying to imitate it, if you ask me.

Like...if we can decipher the black and white differences between "Underground" to something like "Still Don't Give A Fuck" or "Role Model" with relative ease, he is definitely aware. "Underground" was just his modern Slim Shady, I suppose - although there are many sides, I'd say songs such as "Bagpipes From Baghdad" and "My Mom" are WAY more reminiscent of his older style/what fits the basic description of 'Slim Shady'.

What I'm saying is...was he going for a Shady/DGAF persona? Yes, and he did with a modern edge. Was he trying to mimic his old style? Nah.

I see it as Em trying to make that classic Slim Shady/hip hop shop track. But regardless of whether or not you agree with me on that it still stands that the track is poorly written. The lines in Underground don't resonate because he was focusing on rhyming instead of what he was saying, leading to anticlimactic buildups and ultimately a forgettable song.
