Yeah THAT BIT, but then it has lots of generic bits which ruin it.

If he had stuck to that simplicity and intensity, it could have been an amazing track.

But the way he delivers lines in verses 2 and 3 / even leaving the lyrics aside... he sounds so quiet and muffled in the beat, like he's gently babbling. Which makes for one of his weakest singles, weak in the literal sense as in - his voice has little impact...

And this is supposed to me MMLP2 ffs... he had the right idea with the opening lines, but then it gets silly.

Berzerk, man...
I love the song, flaws (like above) and all.
As much as the second, and maybe third, verses may seem like rambling, it does seem to follow a more...I dunno, coherent line of thought than most of Em's lead singles which basically consist of pointing Em in a direction, usually celebs, and letting him rant.
(Berzerk >> We Made You)

I actually like the second verse, not because of the wildly contested he's-making-fun-of-bad-rappers angle, but because it actually shows rather than tells the whole idea of going Berzerk, with the bow-chicka-wow-wow and whatever the hell Kid Rock named his song. It's even better because there's a bit of a voice change, right before said "wow-wow" and just before "at least I know that I don't know" which sort of throws the whole silliness of those lines into contrast.

I think the song would be better appreciated if it was taken as "Berzerk" rather than following the opening lines of taking it back to real hip hop and starting from scratch, which probably gave the impression that it was going to be a semi-serious song.

Finally, the production. Loud, in your face, unrelenting, and totally unlike anything getting airplay today, as evidenced by the hate it has gotten from today's instant gratification driven society.
It has been said before, but if Berzerk represents the general sound of MMLPII, then fuck it, classic incoming.

I think it'll be:
1) MMLP
2) TES
3) MMLP2
4) SSLP
5) Encore
6) Recovery
7) Relapse (I know, I know, I put it too low)
8) Infinite

For me,

1. TES
2 MMLP
3. SSLP
4. Recovery
5. Relapse
6. MMLP2
7. Encore
8. Infinite

I feel like one of Eminem's biggest strengths was the ability to know what resonated with people even when it was not necessarily conventional. My Name is was accidental of course but his two lead up singles after that were intentional and made with the formula to resonate with the public. And they did. They are on classic albums.

Just lose it did not, it felt tired, forced and uninteresting. The rest of the album was not good either. He thought that was what people wanted but executed it so badly we did not want it anymore.

Relapse (whether it was good or bad) did not resonate with the general public and Eminem did not like that. Instead of finding some off kilter niche or nook that people would vibe to he went with what was popular and for the most part, it worked. A good amount of the younger generation flocked to Eminem standom. The same could be said for Lighters.

Now, Berzerk is him trying to appeal to the "old hip-hop head." From the lyrics "lets bring it to straight hip-hop" to the video (beastie boys inspired) to the interviews (director said it) it all points to the reaction of nolstagia he wants to get out of us. And for the most part, he has failed. Miserably. An Eminem song will sell regardless of how good it is (Crack a Bottle) and may even win a grammy, so that cannot be the measure.

Have people had a positive reaction online? Mixed, at best. I have played that song to over 30 of my hip-hop loving friends, they either hate it or are unmoved. Nothing to do with comparisons. Nothing to do with TRSS. In itself, the song feels noisy, messy, sloppily written and forgettable.

Now, i am not saying that i use people's reactions to his songs to tell me how good they are. I am saying though that i am using his intentions and the result to see if he is achieving what he is going for. In this case, it does not look encouraging at all.

As such, i am going to wait and see, but i know i will be skipping one song when the album comes out and that is not a good thing.

I was under the impression that Em was doing a whole time-travel thing with each of his verses on Berzerk.

Very well thought out :y:

With that said, I completely disagree with you in every way, shape, and form.

You know... I wonder how TR and the Internet will react in general if Em really does manage to make MMLP II the same level of genius as the first MMLP. :coffee: I feel like, even if he did, nobody would ever admit it.

I usually bash Recovery in some way, and it deserves bashing, but fucking hell, it rips Encore a new asshole.

U like the beats and hooks over encore?

Encore obviously has better beats, but Recovery has some good hooks, while Encore is mostly just meh in that department.
