4Corners wrote:Em is held to the highest of standards, even by the people who say he's overrated, which makes no fucking sense. Where as Jay can release Blueprint 3, Watch the Throne, Magna Carta and though it's no where near his earlier albums and not even on par with American Gangster, his fans still say "Ahhhh Jay is dope, Jay is the man, yada yada yada". Where as Em releases Relapse and Recovery which are better IMO than BP3 and MCHG, and HTS which is better than WTT.....all we hear from the heads or fans of those other guys is that Em fell off and isn't the same guy.

It's retarded.

But the difference is that Jay has admitted he is not as good as he once was. Instead of trying to recreate former glory Jay has admittedly moved on and is now focusing on evolving his music. "Niggas want my old shit, buy my old albums," that's Jay's motto now.

In the meantime Em still wants to act like he's in his prime, when he clearly isn't and sticks out like a sore thumb in today's age. I give Relapse being better than BP3 but in no way is it better than MCHG. Same goes for Recovery.

But, this discussion isn't even about the albums. This discussion is about the rappers themselves. How far they are willing to go to maintain relevance in the rap game and keep their fans happy. Because, let's be honest, that's all the music industry is. Jay developed a fan base of supporters by shifting his music from standard rap to a more techno/rock-influenced sound, just like Kanye.

His rapping may not contain lyrics about the streets anymore but at least he's rapping from his own point of view and rapping just to rap. He's not there to pick fights, not there to throw shots, not there to try to stand out, because he's already stood out.

All you hear in Eminem's music now is how he's the best and he's the cemented GOAT. He's the greatest rapper of all time blah blah this blah blah that. He's got this second chance so now he's going to prove to everyone that he is the best to ever do it.

But the truth is...it's all senseless mind babble. When Eminem was the GOAT, he should have been rapping about the best. Unfortunately, he was playing the humble guy act a little too much and ended up releasing an album full of fart noises and songs about being Rain Man...

This is why I believe Jay-Z > Eminem in terms of who deserves the GOAT title more. It's Jay-Z's approach to the music that I enjoy.

He had some good lines.

i know you don't think its the best track ever, but you focus on a few lines from an em track that were debatably "cringey" and you let them slide with hopsin's lines like..."ill uppercut you some many times, it will look like you was nodding yes" and "i'm the shit like i slivered in poop".. im a fan of hopsin and what he's doing, but for him this is really weak compared to what hes done in the past..it's just a recurring theme of late by shit loads of people, em is the most scrutinized emcee in the game, yet lesser emcees get a free pass

I don't care who you are in the music industry, what you do to make sure you have a lot of fans and a lot of money or you just laying down and accepting you aren't that good. That doesn't make him the greatest rapper. That is silly.

A rapper that admits he's not as good experimenting with different sounds for the sake of keeping his discography alive > a rapper that knows he's fallen off but does not admit it and acts like he's the best rapper currently.

It does.

Menzo wrote:And a rapper who doesn't admit weakness and stills experiments and continues to maintain sharp lyricism and flows is worse?

Except, Eminem is not experimenting...at all. Same rock influenced beats. Same shouting voice. Same lyrics about the best.

His flow is not that sharp...hasn't had a sharp flow since Relapse...

I hold all artists to the same judgement.

I just don't really give a shit about Hopsin and Eminem is one of my favorite artists of all time.

So I'm more vocal and disappointed when he does something bad.

Hopsin has plenty of horrible songs. But I don't lurk on internet forums every day for weeks waiting for Hopsin to drop music, when his stuff is out, it's just like "oh yeah, I guess I'll check that out"

Em is different.

Trilla......nothing you said changes the fact that em is a sharper emcee than Jay. How was Em not incredibly dope on Cold wind blows, on fire, GTC, seduction, no love, session one, ridaz, so bad, almost famous, untitled, w2h, fast lane, above the law, loud noises, etc.

and to say em isnt a top lyricist anymore is foolish. Jays been rapping about the same shit since day 1 but doesnt get near as much shit as em for doing that. and no....mchg, dynasty, vol 3, bp2, kingdom come, wtt were all mediocre to decent. Its like jay gets away woth dumb verses or lines more than eminem ever would.

Em isnt quite as good as his prime but oh well. he still makes dope stuff and bar for bar can spit with anyone.

Difference is em and nas were a level above jay in their, primes, and they all fell a, little off sincevthen. Jay fell off harder though IMO. So at thispoint em and nas are clearly ahead of jay.

yeah but according to him, jay as admitted hes wack now, so that makes him goat still, but em knows he's wack and wont admit it. thats some logic right there

I am gonna restructure what I have to say on the matter.
Jay is in my Top 5 dead or alive.. But Em is too.

If you are gonna argue Jay is the better rapper I'd have to disagree.. But in the big picture of EVERYTHING I can see the argument and personal preference as to who is better..

I just feel Bar for Bar.. Nas and Em >>> Jay
