The day Encore came out,i rushed to the city and stood outside a record store waiting for it to open. After The Eminem Show,my expectations was pretty high,so i walked in and bought it,rushed back home and popped the cd in and boy was i let down..i got a bad feeling right from the start when Evil Deeds played.
When i had played through the whole cd,i just sat there and had this empty feeling inside, the record didnt do shit for me.Lol

I have never been so disappointed by an EM record ever.
I liked Yellow Brick Road and found Puke funny at the time but other than that it was a total let down.

What im trying to say is the shit is trash, point blank period.

But i loved and still love We As Americans and Love You More.
Ricky Ticky Toc is not bad either.

By the standard of rap fans today, the only thing you need to create good music today is just the ability to project a certain attitude that hipsters don't find 'corny'. An attitude that morons will mistake for brilliance and some lines that stick out like 'You find me offensive, I find you offensive for finding me offensive' from a bunch of stupid lines that only but confuse people. A beat that's catchy enough but repulsive enough to be edgy. Who cares about what the words say, who cares about what the inherent musical aspects of a lyrical string of words(what the fuck are those anyway, lyrics are completely divorced from what 'artistic' music is). Now, you go around and listen to rap with 'great music', get sensitized to incompetent rhymes and learn to accept the importance of 'attitude' and get brainwashed into thinking that it negates all the other aspects. Then, it's no wonder people like Encore.

Well, the same can be said about the new tendency to say Eminem is only good at rhymes but not in making music as if rhymes in rap lyrics don't have any stake in the overall quality of music. I love it when they go 'I'm not questioning his lyrical prowess but where's the actual music' because that's what ignorant metalheads in the 90s used to say about hip hop music. These days I see rap fans saying the same thing.

@Iris2
I don't understand the whole 'I'm not questioning his lyrical prowess but where's the actual music' either, it's annoying af and I basically just insult whoever said it 'till I feel less irritated.

This is inaccurate for the simple fact that Encore is far from being the ideal hipster album (not that any Eminem album is).

Attitude that hipsters don't find corny? In the eyes of a hipster, Encore is the epitome of corny. Fart noises? Burping? Childish like insults? The whole homosexual football thing?

Nice try, but no.

If anything, the reason people hate Encore (that's still the majority) is due to Eminem's displays of downright silliness on the album... it isn't the right "attitude", as you so put it.

I should have clarified that I don't mean that people like 'Encore'. No, rap fans are too much of sheep to admit to liking it . but that people would be ready to like songs on encore like Mosh and Like Toy Soldiers because of the vibes/attitudes of the songs despite how superficial and arbitrary the lyrics in these songs are but they're ready to dislike a good song like Love the Way You Lie just because 'he made a song with Rihanna, so corny'.

My whole point wasn't directed at Encore. I just described the current mentality of rap fans today and came to the conclusion that it was no wonder that some people like these songs.

In the last week, here are some of the opinions I've read on this message board:

- TES is a shitty album with some white guy yelling about politics
- Ass Like That isn't that bad
- Encore is better than Recovery

The latter actually being an increasingly popular belief.

Ridiculous.

Pretty much this. Recovery is incredibly over-hated now. Yeah, it's not exactly genius, but it's FAR better than Encore could ever hope to be.

I don't know whether I prefer Encore or Recovery, They are both bottom of the barrel for sure but for extremely different reasons. Encore was a bi-polar mess which fell apart 7 tracks in, with lazy lyrics, and unforgivable stupidness which justs brings the album down so badly - 3/4 of the beats were fantastic though.
Recovery is a complete different beast, lyrically he seems off a little (though nowhere near as much as Encore) a lot of unnecessary screaming and shouting with corny punchlines littered throughout. A more consistent album overall - 3/4 of the beats aren't too hot. Both have fucking awful songs but they also have some classics.

Encore highlights - Yellow Brick Road, Like Toy Soldiers, Mockingbird
Recovery highlights - Going through Changes, Almost Famous
Q. What did Eminem say to 50 when he caught him wearing a sweater?
A. GEE YOU KNITT??

I ain't no fucking G, I'm a cannibal
I ain't tryin to shoot you, I'm tryin to chop you into pieces and eat you
Wrap you in rope and plastic, stab you with broken glass
And have you with open gashes strapped to a soakin mattress
Coke and acid, black magic, cloaks and daggers
Fuck the planet, 'til it spins on a broken axis
